"If we find our government in all its branches rushing headlong... into the arms of monarchy, if we find them violating our dearest rights, the trial by jury, the freedom of the press, the freedom of opinion, civil or religious, or opening on our peace of mind or personal safety the sluices of terrorism, if we see them raising standing armies, when the absence of all other danger points to these as the sole objects on which they are to be employed, then indeed let us withdraw and call the nation to its tents. But while our functionaries are wise, and honest, and vigilant, let us move compactly under their guidance, and we have nothing to fear. Things may here and there go a little wrong. It is not in their power to prevent it. But all will be right in the end, though not perhaps by the shortest means." --Thomas Jefferson to William Duane, 1811. ME 13:29

Let's see:
Free Speech Zone
Patriot Act
Iraq War

What else would Thomas Jefferson be upset about?

in the modern sense of the word?

In his Rights of Man, Agrarian Justice, and Age of Reason, founding father Thomas Paine argues for:
- public education for every single child
- a pension system for the elderly
- a minimum wage
- the right to bargain
- secular government
- progressive taxes (meaning shift taxes to the rich)
and even
- a government work program

HERE IS CALLING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION

"After all the above cases are provided for there will still be a number of families who, though not properly of the class of poor, yet find it difficult to give education to their children; and such children, under such a case, would be in a worse condition than if their parents were actually poor. A nation under a well-regulated government should permit none to remain uninstructed. It is monarchical and aristocratical government only that requires ignorance for its support..."

I recently had an interview with a Real Estate office and he told me that I would have to give up my rights as a loan officer if I was to work at his company and if I should ever leave there I wouldn't be able to work as a loan officer or Admin Assist. for a Real Estate office for another 3 years. Can they do that??

Do you know Bush is taxing us more than we think he is. How? not directly but rather by indirect means. While inflation looks like it is normal government is printing more money than it ever was. As you know a euro is one of the most stable currency in the world and was about .80 cents in 2000 now costs almost $1.48. I am hoping as educated citizens you know the gold value is rising ever since paper money came to existance, But I want you to look at the pattern. http://goldprice.org/gold-price-history.... In year 2000, 68 cents were equal to one canadian dollar now it is almost 89 cents. that is about 20 cents/dollar. means in canadian currancy if you were making a $100000 a year now you are making only $80000. If you will say well it dosnt show up in price. Then the reality is food prices and basic expenses are going up. Elctronics and bigger purchases like houses and cars hasn't went up. So do you think the tax cuts were real?

I have been having trouble with a tree removal company. They were supposed to remove the larger logs and cut some of the smaller branches into manageable size for a log splitter to cut the wood for my fire place.I was quoted a price to cut the wood and leave the log splitter but the person that quoted me the cost is unavailable and now the people say that it is not enough money for the work. They have yet to finish the cutting but did leave the log splitter on my property. It's been weeks now and I want the job finished as my property is a mess. Can they go past my no trespassing signs and small fence to retrieve the log splitter. They have already been paid in full (my stupid mistake for believing they were men of their word) So far they have made no attempt to finish the job. They screen out my calls but they do answer after numerous attempts and always have an excuse they have not shown up.Can they pass my small fence and no trespassing signs to retrieve their equipment?

This Florida couple is suing a doctor for not diagnosing their fetus' illness accurately. If he HAD diagnosed correctly they would have mercilessly slaughtered the innocent child while snuggled safely in the "mother's" womb. (mother in quotes cause real mothers don't take a scalpel to their babies.. right?

Does anyone else want to move to the moon?

I was a fetus once. I have clear fetal memories..

Since she and her husband have decided to enter the Presidential race, is what she says open to criticism...OR...do we all give her a pass because of her medical condition?

The following was a question of mine regarding a statement that Elizabeth Edwards made:
Elizabeth Edwards is going to give up eating tangerines to save our earth, what are YOU going to give up?
Mrs. Edwards is making a huge sacrifice and giving up tangerines in the name of Global Warming and Conservation...how noble. With such a huge sacrifce on her part - what can we "little people" do to EQUAL her amazing contribution to society?

HERE IS ONE OF THE ANSWERS TO THIS QUESTION:
Wow... Not just smearing a candidate with non-issue nonsense ... Not just smearing a candidate's wife with non-issue nonsense... but smearing a candidate's wife who has inoperable cancer with non-issue nonsense that means nothing to nobody...
Fantastic!! Way to raise the bar on political discourse!

What do you think?

I live in a new apartment complex and we have been there for 8 months. They haven't assigned parking stickers or anything like that to the residents and there is no parking when I get home (I mean 0 parking spots). I have always parking on the curb because there was no parking spots but this morning my car was towed. Apparently they painted on in white letters "tow away zone" on the curb yesterday and by the time I got home I couldn't see the "tow away" letters. Is there anything I can do? Can I take them to a small claim court for not even giving me a warning? Can I break my lease because they said in our contract they would provide me with covered parking and yet there is no parking at night? Please help!

Suppose I own a bar. It's private property, and I want to allow a perfectly legal activity (smoking). I tell all potential employees that if they work there they will be exposed to second hand smoke, and let them decide whether to continue seeking employment. I put a sign up at the front of the door telling people that smoking is allowed, and if they don't want to be exposed to it then they should go somewhere else. I hire bouncers to keep all minors out, so kids can't be affected by the smoke. In short, I have decided to allow a legal activity within the confines of my own private property, and taken steps to ensure that all employees and patrons are aware before they even set foot in the door that they are choosing to put themselves in that environment. Kids are not allowed. Everybody has the choice, but now it's illegal for the owner AND the patrons to make! Can someone explain why choosing for ourselves how we live is illegal?

"The property of this country is absolutely concentred in a very few hands, having revenues of from half a million of guineas a year downwards..."

"I am conscious that an equal division of property is impracticable. But the consequences of this enormous inequality producing so much misery to the bulk of mankind, legislators cannot invent too many devices for subdividing property, only taking care to let their subdivisions go hand in hand with the natural affections of the human mind. Another means of silently lessening the inequality of property is to exempt all from taxation below a certain point, and to tax the higher portions of property in geometrical progression as they rise. Whenever there is in any country, uncultivated lands and unemployed poor, it is clear that the laws of property have been so far extended as to violate natural right. The earth is given as a common stock for man to labor and live on."
