If you don't like reading the news because it's depressing (I absolutely agree with you) how are you able to form an opinion on something you know nothing about. I am often amazed how vocal people can become about an issue but when you press them, you find their opinions are based on emotions OR heresay rather than on any genuine knowledge of the subject. Americans are notoriously guilty of this. It is interesting that of the people who answered my question only 2 people, one an Australian, admitted to being addicted to the news. Americans GET WITH IT!!!!

News is worthy if it is real. Heard on the grapevine that the government authorities did not burn the acres of havestable marijuana but NETTED it all in. WHO profits from this? WHO lost from this? Guess any one can reply to this. Wish the truth would be told. DEA answers are appreciated. (Which Forrest AREA?)

They will go down in history for being the most annoying snake oil salesmen of the century!

May they burn in hell for tormenting us with that "apply directly to the forehead" subliminal message!

A few weeks ago the news ran a story of a nanny that was convicted of shaking a baby. I think she was in Florida. From the video tapes that were shown its seemed like she didnt do anything wrong. It appeared that she was playing with the baby and there was no physical evidence of abuse. She was convicted. Did she get out of prison? I have not seen any follow up

The Media portrays citizens of the United States in the light of being sympathetic to all nations except themselves. As an American, what do you dislike about Americans? And would you leave if you had the chance?

I'm looking for a site or service (newspaper, website, NPR, AP/Reuters, etc.) that specializes in news from and about various Latin American countries (rather than, say, a more general "world news" feed) for me to add to an RSS aggregator - something where there won't be the same story repeating twelve times from different news services. It should also be noted that I'm not looking for news from specifically one country or the other, but a feed that covers the whole region. Either English or Spanish (I could use the practice) language articles are fine with me. Thanks, everybody!

I wish to meet folks who have survived multiple lightening strikes and this includes the ball type of plasma energy. thanks I was struck first time at age 9 in Ohio, the same day my horse was struck across town and died, the second time I was working outside and I ran to my truck and it hit the hood, the third time I was checking mail and saw it coming and it hit the mail box as I was taking off for the house to close the door. I got inside and got hit by a blue St Elmo's Fire or plasma ball right upside my head. It made me lose hearing for a while and also turned on a light which was on the mantle as the ball jumped up the fireplace chimney.

The media circus on Katie is just getting started. Does anyone else think she is a lightweight and that there are many other women who would actually do a much better job reading the news. Do we really care if the newsreader is a big celebrity?

What do words like "tribune," "herald," "gazette," "register," "sentinel," etc. mean? Where's the originality?

Why not use a name like "Smithville Newspaper." That's not very original, I know, but at least it's to the point and understandable. Or an original name like "Golden Rain Tree" or "The Phantom Escalator."

I am looking for a book on the life story of Reverend J. A. De Laine, a pioneer in the Clarendon County SC's case Briggs v. Elliott. This case went to the Supreme Court and was one of the cases that made up Brown v. Board of Topeka KS. I am trying to fine his story. This would have been published maybe in the 50's or 60's.

When someone really important is giving a speech I've noticed these transparent slightly tented plate looking things near by the person speaking. Usually there are two of them, one on each side and they are slightly ahead and angled towards the person. What are they? I really don't know where to put this question either!

I suppose that negative stories are more sensational, but positive stories are so much more enlightening. Instead of the usual gloom and doom stories that are reported every day, I would like to read more about the good things that are going on, about how people show they care about others.
