These days with self-publishing, the major publishing companies are very selective in what they publish. It has to guarantee them sales. I'd get a copy of the Writer's Market- that's the yearly guide to publishing. They have all the publishing house contacts, what their criteria for submitting a manuscript is, etc,. plus info about article submission to magazines and newspapers. Good luck.

First of all, unless you self-publish your book, you will probably need to get a literary agent. (Self-publishing is expensive and you have to promote your book yourself.) The big publishing companies rarely sign on unsolicited manuscripts anymore. Plus an agent can get you a bigger advance and has contacts you don't have. Work on cleaning up your finished manuscript, then start sending out query letters to agents.

www.agentquery.com is a great website and will guide you through the process.

I am writing a novel myself and I have got this problem myself.I have heard you should even pay money to get your book published and you will not be paid anything remarkeble unless you really write a novel like Harry Potter!!!
