If you don't like reading the news because it's depressing (I absolutely agree with you) how are you able to form an opinion on something you know nothing about. I am often amazed how vocal people can become about an issue but when you press them, you find their opinions are based on emotions OR heresay rather than on any genuine knowledge of the subject. Americans are notoriously guilty of this. It is interesting that of the people who answered my question only 2 people, one an Australian, admitted to being addicted to the news. Americans GET WITH IT!!!!

I did read your answer to my first question Dee Jay. You should check out C-Span 1 and 2. It is amazing the breadth of information you can find there both on the right and left of the issues.

This is a follow up to my answer on your first question. Check my answer. I said I do follow the news but not the news paper. I feel like you do about people who spout off without knowing the facts. I feel we have to sort out the source and then we can form an opinion all by our little self. I agree. Americans GET WITH IT!!!!!

I admit that I am also addicted to the news. I watch my local news and I watch CNN a lot, but I also read the newspaper and I read a lot of online news to get varied content. (NY Times, BBC, Washington Post, etc.) I agree with you that a lot of Americans are not well-informed, and/or misinformed. I think it goes along with the general apathy of Americans. A lot of us tend to be self-centered.

You've got to be careful where you get your news from. Some of the so-called news on TV is now just sponsored product placement. It's amazing with the internet today that people don't try to get different perspectives when "reading" the news.

hi Lioness, i attempted to discover "objectified" and "objectification" interior the dictionary and no excitement. properly, i'm no longer precisely particular I understand your queston, yet think of i might have an thought. besides, have you ever heard of the "bell curve"? it particularly is a curve it somewhat is formed like a bell and does a sturdy activity of representing information. As for elegance, at one end of the curve we've the least eye-catching and on the different end the main. the comparable could be actual for income ... poorest on one section and richest on the different. interior the direction of the bell we've all the well-known persons. i think of what you're asserting is actual, yet basically basically a actuality of existence. we've the full spectrum for the two genders. As for why adult men do no longer protest ... i assume they understand that it somewhat is basically the way issues are and protests are no longer at risk of alter something. desire this permits!

americans, such as myself, are blessed with john stewart and stephen colbert (to say nought of their cohorts, and amusing teachers, friends, relatives, et al), who have turned infotainment on its head, by actually providing the info the word promises, but few, before them, delivered (i exclude SCTV and some of SNL, off the top of my head, P.J. [pre john]), with a heaping helping of teh funny (not a typo), on top. a little bit of sugar helps the medicine go down. perhaps foreigners are blessed to receive these shows, in their barbaric "languages", or have, somehow, learned enough english to get SOME of the content. i can only pray... in a secular sort of way (ahemunitarianuniversalistsimeanyou).
