Hi, I am a freelance writer and I wanted some advice from other PROFESSIONAL writers out there. I am trying to get an idea of what other writers charge for writing biographies, writing web content, doing major projects like magazine editing/layout/content.

Just need to know viewpoints on what really happenened in New Orleans in the wake of katrina....I was horrified !!! What the hell was the federal government thinking!!! Like when John Kennedy Jr's plane went down, I saw absolutely nothing but a screen shot of the spot of water for like 3 days. Did they expect him to rise up out of the water or something? Then they have to interview EVERY single person who has ever heard the name "john"...Give me a break!

I'm trying to think of some good stories for the newspaper in my small town. The problem is that there is very little going on so I am looking for something would not be timely, something for a feature or the like. I have been to Poynter.org and looked but haven't seen anything that would work for the paper. If any journalists or other people out there know of some sites that give some help with coming up with ideas, especially for small towns please let me know! Every news channel in India are owned by either political parties or by industrialists with vested interests. At the viewers end, what one gets is the telecast with twisted facts, mudslinging & neglecting the main issues.

Many channels consider themselves as national channels,just by covering the northern India and forgetting other regions. When the floods were across Andhra Pradesh a few months ago, the news channels were focusing about a politcian's son, who was arrested on charges of possessing narcotics.

Is the criminal more important to news channels than the innocent people who were left in high lurch during those floods?
