JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is quietly preparing for the possibility of a nuclear-armed Iran despite public pledges to deny its arch-foe the means to pose an "existential threat," Israeli political and defense sources said on Thursday.

They said Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has instructed cabinet officials to draft proposals on how Israel, whose security strategy is widely assumed to hinge on having the Middle East's only atomic arsenal, might deal with losing this monopoly.

Israel predicts that Iran's nuclear program could produce warheads by 2009. Western intelligence services say it may take several more years.

When I hear presidential candidates criticize Bush, I ask what the previous/Clinton administration did to prevent the problems that erupted. Whenever I ask this kind of question, I only receive evasive and defensive answers- none definitively compare the two administrations to show how only Bush is to blame. Why is it that many posters do not want to discover and discuss the history of issues, and what happened when that led to where we are today ?

There have been a few questions about the discovery of Vicky Hamilton's body over the past two days. I have noticed in all the lovely posts that are conveying sympathy towards her family, every one of them just about has been given a thumbs down.

Personally I think that is appalling. Does anyone else?

I have to do a project that compares isolation to intervention.

I see Hurricane Katrina as an example of Isolation because the government didn't get right down there. What would be a good example of Intervention in the US- maybe another disaster, possible 9/11?

David Miliband a member of parliment in England has suggested that Africa and Russia be admitted as part of the European Union in a bid to "extend stability"

Is this guy out of his tiny mind? Africa and Russia were not considered part of Europe when i went to school. Are these public school boys, who become politicians really that stupid? If i was David Milibands father, then i would be asking for a full refund and compensation from the school that he attended.

He goes on to compound his stupidity with this non statement, Mr Miliband urged the EU to use "soft and hard power"

Does Mr Miliband live in La La Land?

The United States (and much of Europe) have a very different personnel mission in Mid East as opposed to Africa. In the Mid-East we are willing to put U.S. soldiers on the front lines, while in Africa, we seem not to be willing to do this. is the reason:

a) Americans aren't willing to see U.S. soldiers hurt in Africa.
b) U.S. isn't willing to invest the same $$ in Africa as in Mid East.
c) It's much cheaper for U.S. to put guns in the hands of certain Africans and let them fend for themselves while backing such types of groups in Mid East has less "favorable outcomes"?
d) Other reason I'm unaware of.

Thanks

"We will always live with the fact that Kate and I were not in the apartment when it happened and we have to face up to that," says Gerry McCann in a revealing conversation set to air this Saturday, Nov. 17, on 48 Hours. "We're very much trying to focus on what can be done now, not what could have been done before because we did not do it."

Correspondent Peter Van Sant reports on this story for 48 Hours Mystery, this Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
