"We will always live with the fact that Kate and I were not in the apartment when it happened and we have to face up to that," says Gerry McCann in a revealing conversation set to air this Saturday, Nov. 17, on 48 Hours. "We're very much trying to focus on what can be done now, not what could have been done before because we did not do it."
Correspondent Peter Van Sant reports on this story for 48 Hours Mystery, this Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

I'm not anti McCann, apart from thinking they were partly responsible for Madeleine going missing, but I don't accept that statement as an apology in any way.
I think they would both gain a lot more respect if they admitted they were wrong to leave the kids alone, rather than saying "we wish we had been there when it happened". That's ridiculous. If they had been there when it happened, it wouldn't have happened.
In any case, the only person who deserves an apology is Madeleine... they probably know it, but it would help get public opinion back on their side if they just said so.

I hope I can get this programme on my tv. I have seen a programme on before called '48 Hours'.
I will watch it if I'm not on web-cam having a party with family. ......(we open a bottle and have some laughs).
Whether people will believe anything Gerry has to say, remains to be seen. He comes across as very cold and in total control. That could just be the way he is.
Madeleine's case is very similar to others, but it's best to keep an open mind and stay wary, which I started off as doing, and lost my way......I'm back on track now though.

I'm not an anti or a pro, but I think that saying 'we regret that we weren't there when it happened' is a bit daft considering it wouldn't have happened if they had been there. However, they have to live with what they did for the rest of their lives, and they must feel terrible. I pray Madeleine is found safe and well, and that her parents get a chance to make it up to her, because they must be wishing for that more than anything in the world.

Well... I feel so much for them but I just cannot for the life of me see look away from the fact that they are acting as though they do not care very much for losing Maddie !! I realise that what I have just said sounds insane but that is the impression I keep getting !! Of course we all react differently to grief but we all SHOW our grief/desperation !! They don't !! Can TWO people react in identical ways to the loss of their child ? What ever happened to "opposites attract" ? They cannot be that similar !! Surely they cannot react in IDENTICAL ways to the loss of their child -- not showing emotion at all. Additionally, I will say it again... I have confidence in the entire police force of Portugal !! Calling the the PJ-GNR 'inadequate' etc will not stick with me ! What about all that evidence. As much as I feel for them.... as much as I wish to be on their side (I am a father myself), I cannot turn my head away from what I perceive to be the truth and the truth is still in my view that they had something to do with the disappearance of their beautiful child !!! I would be the first one to shout out loud "leave them alone... they have suffered enough" but I would only do that if they owned up to whatever they did !!

Some of the extreme anti's, and we all know who they are, will never be happy until both parents are imprisoned in the Tower Of London or even worse. They never show any thought to the missing little girl all they want to do is shower the parents with pure hatred.

This doesn't seem like a question - more like a plug for a programme.
