The only way to stop this type of thing is to have a cop at every door. And check every person that enters the campus one at a time.

Many seem to think that wielding two 9mm pistols and shooting into a crowd is enough to produce these kinds of numbers. The lone student murdered more than thirty, A NUMBER GREATER THAN THAT OF THOSE WOUNDED. This is better than a 1:1 ratio of killed to wounded.

Compatively, the two heavily-armed Columbine teens only killed 13 compared to 24 injured. This is almost a 1:2 ratio, making today's tragedy twice as damaging.

Charles Whitman killed 14 from his tower in Austin, Texas compared to 31 injured. Granted this is a longer distance, but the man had military training, and these people were getting hit by large-caliber rifle rounds.

Merely shooting into a crowd (especially with 9mm pistols) produces a lot of injured people and not so many fatally wounded. The skill and training necessary to score rapid critical hits on moving targets isn't found just anywhere.

The official story stinks of incredulity. Thoughts?

9/11
Economic recession
Outsourcing
Iraq war
Political scandels and corruption
Hurricane Katrina
Immigration problems
and now this.

I am not blaming Bush, but it is very weird to see all of these problems occuring in such a short amount of time. Maybe its Karma.

Why is it written into the American Constitution that people can carry guns? And why hasn't it ever been this way in the UK? Was America just a too lawless country by the time proper government came to power?

You have the right to bear arms, not to own guns. Owning a gun is a privilege, not a right. If it was a right, there wouldn't be restrictions on it, such as in the case of a driver's license. I am upset by those who defend the "rights" of people to bear arms, whenever students are killed by some person who gave up their rights the instant they took that life. Be grateful of your rights, but recognize that your freedom comes with a price and that being responsible (and not letting your kids go shooting at 5 years old) is more important. Life is precious.

Are Americans stupid, or why do they let people to posess firearms? I don't understand what is the purpose of owning a gun... To kill inocent people, or to be killed by some crazy person???

As I read in this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18134671/?GT1=9246 ,
president G. W. Bush thinks it is right that people should own firearms... But what for? Has there been even one case when firearms proved useful for something?

Why does the president of this sorry country say this, through one of his spokesmen: “The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed,” Perino said. I believe it is sad and appaling that he says this, after all these people were murdered...

Shouldn't the law that enables people to own guns be changed, so that noone could own guns?

School shootings come in sprees. After 1 occurs they media plays it over and over again. A few weeks/months later there is usually a spree.

look, over 20 dead in a university campus shooting. This kinda thing has heppened before, yet why dont the US government wake up and realise what guns are doing? yeah, there are advantages to having a gun, in terms of self protection, but the risks and disadvantages far far outweigh the advantages. it sent a chill up my spine reading the article on yahoo news, because of knowing how bad people can be affected by gun crime. over 20 dead. as many as 32. whats going on? how many more fatalities does it take for someone to wake up and go "hey, something bad is happening here. guns are legal, and thats where the problem lies". yeah, there will still be gun crime, but not in such huge proportions.

Before we all start talking about who's to blame for this (if it hasn't started already), can we take a minute to think about the families of those who died?
