Big Blue...well they did interview a student who said that "emails", were sent out about the first shooting, but that she didnt read her email that morning, but that she arrived for class at 9am & it was school as usual...according to students the email didnt say school was being closed or dont come to school...thats what Im trying to understand....why they hadnt taped off the entire school, or put cops around to keep people out or use intercom to tell students to leave....it was "School as usual"...some didnt even know anything had happened...

Bad communication! It's horrible. You would think that 2 hours would be MORE than enough time to clear out students or lockdown halls.. So horrible.

How difficult would it have been to put VA Tech on lock down at 7 AM this morning after the FIRST shooting?
It would've been different if they had a suspect, but if a college campus has 2 MURDERS and then no suspect in custody, why in the world would you let college kids get together in small class rooms w/a shooter on the loose?

Seriously people, I'm no genius, but it does not take one to realize how bad the VA Tech administration and police effed up today, someone had better be getting fired.

A big part of it is, that everyone has to be so careful now. If they would have caused a panic, and anyone got hurt there would be lawsuits. And the same people blaming the police for the delay, would be making comments like: “Another over reaction” and that got people hurt. Even if they would have caught the gunman. That is what is wrong with America. Everyone is pulling in different directions. the left is saying get rid of the guns, but on the same note, don't want to invade anyone’s privacy. How are you going to get millions of guns of the street. just ask? I think not. Then you have the gun nuts who will not budge on anything. Plus you have the issue of security. Everyone is saying that Virginia Tech should of had better security. But there are so many cases where the ACLU is suing schools, and colleges for their security measures. Saying it is an invasion of peoples rights. The world has changed people, and until we can our acts together, and stop blaming each other for everything. Things will get much worse before they get better.

I absolutely hate to think of the implications of this during such a time. The horrendous trauma being experienced by families, students and the nation as a whole is overwhelming, but what is to stop other terrorists from doing such things at will. I often worry about large gatherings of young people like football games, or a visits to Disney World. One can't help but be concerned about the ease of access when we talk about domestic or international terror attacks. When will this insanity stop?

how can you be 'haulin' in a school room? the most you ought to do is administered to the decrease back or leap out the residing house windows as some scholars did. i'm hoping you in no way face this problem because you'll see each body those words you used to describe what you would have performed does no longer ensue. it really is common for someone sitting at a computing device to assert what he/she ought to have performed. RIP VT scholars and faculty who're lengthy gone now, yet no longer forgotten.

I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

The killer alone caused the crime, but the high number of victims is directly caused by gun control.

They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control.

When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like "notifications."

In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.

Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.

Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.

The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly of police or school "notification?”

I don't know the size of Va Tech's campus, but at ODU in Norfolk, VA, the campus is so large that if you don't read your email or the student newspaper, then you won't know what is going on. Maybe the dean of students didn't know about the first shooting.

It's hard to speculate this early on in things... but it does seem like a failure on some level of the police department. The real problem is that guns are available to anyone with a gripe in this country.

the second shooting could of been prevented! If they new somebody had a gun and was shooting at the first shoot. then they should of called the cops then and f*cking went and found out what it was.

Morons are always in charge, you have to assume that. It's so sad that none of those students were able to defend themselves.
