Paris Hilton wins Nobel Peace prize

Rex
Paris Hilton has won the Nobel Peace prize for her role in eradicating war and poverty in Africa.

The former socialite has devoted the last ten years of her life to working in the war-torn continent after visiting Rwanda to film a reality TV show.

The dramatic turnaround followed her jail sentence for driving offences in 2007, after which she pledged to use her fame to raise awareness of good causes.

Hilton beat ex-British Prime Minister Lord Blair, who was nominated for finally bringing lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians in his role as Middle East envoy.

She told DS: "I merely highlighted the problem. The solution was entirely down to UNESCO, the people of Africa and a proper, considered application of the Lewis economic model. It's not all to do with fiscal aberrations and macroeconomic indices - remember, behind every skewed Gini coefficient is a crying child."

The 36-year-old is expected to accept the award in the sky-blue tabbard she has worn since pledging her fortune to Médecins Sans Frontières in 2011. She has already vowed to donate the $1 million prize to the chain of Hilton Hospices she has opened across Africa.

The Nobel committee said: "We are proud to be able to give this award to Miss Hilton, who has picked up the mantle of Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa and run with it."

Her spokesman said: "Nobody took Paris seriously when she said she was going to change her life. But after visiting Rwanda, she knew she had to make a difference. Probably it was a mistake to release an R'n'B version of 'We Are The World' surrounded by African orphans, but since then she has been almost single-handedly responsible for changing the fortunes of an entire continent."

What conditions must this child have experienced to take such a drastic action at 11 years of age?
For months now the focus has been on a single lost girl when there are so many other children suffering on a daily basis that they are contemplating and committing suicide. It is a very sad state that our world is in!

After all, it was Thatcher who said that, according to her, there is no such thing as society.

So who are the Tories to lecture anyone about breakdown in society???

I would trust the Tories to make things better about as much as I would trust that odious cretin Geoffrey Archer!

The following is taken from an Indian newspaper. It says of the British media (and so is a reflection of the people who read it).......

"...wild, unsubstantiated, and inaccurate reports guaranteed to hinder any investigation... McCann bashing... treated a middle class family of doctors and their unfortunate daughter... to the same kind of ghoulish voyeurism it reserves for its hard-bitten politicians and celebrities."

"It's time some responsible element in the British media establishment stood up and said: "We've done enough damage, we really can't find her, so let's stop the circus, shut up, and leave it to experts." And pray that the child can someday get to know the history she's making."

So, anti-McCanns, will you follow this good advice?

Or will you continue to poison the reputation of British people in the eyes of the world?

As a baseball fan, while I love the sportscasters at NESN, listening to Sports talk on radio and reading sports columnists. Those of us who read the Boston Globe newspaper are stuck with the likes of columnist Dan Shaughnessy and his potshot riddled and opinionated sports rants.

The guy is obsessed with his dislike of Schilling because Curt dares to have his own blog. Guess Danny-boy wanted to play baseball when he grew up and its sour grapes that Curt also has more talent than he does with words??

The ten year old boy may be responsible for starting the southern California fire by playing with matches; but he is not responsible for the devastation caused by the fire. The blame lies on the shoulders of the government officials; housing authorities, and home owners, who did not provide adequate planning for fire prevention and protection when constructing homes through out southern California. If criminal charges are brought against anyone, it should be the responsible parties. In my opinion, the child is being used to divert the blame from the real root cause of the devastation. The fire could have been started by a spark from muffler, lightning strike, etc.; it would have had the same devastating results.

Was the Katrina a disaster because of the force of the storm, the neglect of the leaves or because of a catsatrophic human failure or all the above? If anyone watched this film "When the leeves broke", why was this film called "When the leeves broke", as opposed to "Hurricane Katrina"?

To the rest of the world, including many Christians, American foreign policy is too one-sided towards Israel. Even criticising Israel in the US seems to bring down a hail of accusations of "anti-semitism" - often unfairly. Is it time for a more open debate in which supporters of both Israel and the Palestinians can express that support. After all the US Constitution talks of freedom of speech.

I bought Aquadots for my son from this website:

https://www.spindirect.com/product.php?productid=16320/s=aquadots

Unfortunately, this toy has been recalled because two children who ingested it fell into a coma... the story is found in CNN:

http://money.cnn.com/2007/11/07/news/international/toys_drug.ap/index.htm?cnn=yes

So my questions are, how do I return it and get a refund? Who do I talk to? Is there another website I can go to for a return?

I know that a lot of shows are shut down due to the strike, and I have read that most of the stars of these shows are supportive to the striking writers. Can anyone tell me the specifics? I guess in retrospect, I should've waited until the little punk chi'dren went to bed to ask this question, because I know I will get the stock IDK answers, but any light you can shed would be most appreciated.

Millions in fines is more than enough to ruin his life- the average american only makes a million in their working lifetime. But to remove him from his family?

I mean, is it a case of neglect or abuse, or just poor supervision? How many other children start fires unintentionally when in good homes and supervised as well as any child can be? Should they also be removed and made wards of the state?

I dont know, it just seems like head hunting to me. Its like they want to find fault, and punish someone to make up for it or something.

He's only 10 for Christs sake.

Just watched pictures on the news regarding the fire-fighters who lost their lives in Warwickshire and it was heart-breaking seeing their family and friends talking about their loss. Do we really give them enough respect for the job they do? Why do they continually have to fight for every measly pay-rise they get from our greedy and avaricious politicians?
