Just watched pictures on the news regarding the fire-fighters who lost their lives in Warwickshire and it was heart-breaking seeing their family and friends talking about their loss. Do we really give them enough respect for the job they do? Why do they continually have to fight for every measly pay-rise they get from our greedy and avaricious politicians?

My dad's a firefighter and he deserves all the respect in the world.

And yes, statistically speaking more people may get killed in factory jobs but thats because firefighters are trained professionals. I put it to you doubters to change places with one of these heroes for a day, you'll soon change your mind.

And as for saying that they're not as much of heroes as people serving in the Middle East? I've been and served on the front line in Afghanistan, going back again soon and I still wouldn't do the job these firefighters do. People may say that they know what there signing up for as firefighters, (people said that to me about being a soldier) nand the answers the same. It's not about the danger, it's about the fact that all the people sitting in the nice comfy office chairs won't do it. And then have the nerve to slag off the brave men and women who do become firefighters.

They deserve all the respect in the world, along with the paramedics, police forces and military forces. Because without them, you're screwed!

My niece's hubby is a fire fighter. In the last week or two he has been called out on innumerable hoax calls and had rockets fired at the vehicle, put out a deliberate fire in a row of derelict, terraced houses while idiots threw bottles and rubbish at the fire fighters, and dealt with burning burning cars while the fools who probably pinched them in the first place jeered and drank beer.

Do we give them enough respect? Obviously some in our community do not. Why do workers have to fight for every measly pay rise? Because politicians take advantage of people's good will to deliver services on the cheap and eventually find a way for someone to make a profit from it.

I understand your feeling and it is very sad that these fire fighters have died doing there jobs .But what about the poor Ambulance drivers who also risk there lives each and every day for very poor pay .They are abused spat on stabbed .Where I live you see Ambulances flying around all day and its not very often that the fire crew are out in a day I think these people also need more respect along with nurses .And stop paying the foot balers so much .Well done to all those people in the services who look after us so well

I think most of the general public are well aware of the excellent service not only Fire Fighters provide , but also the other emergency services as well .
Yes we can always provide an argument for higher pay , but what I would like to see is the immediate cessation of all those hooligans who stone fire engines when they attend an incident . To me that is definitely a lack of respect from idiots who are the lowest of the low .
And yes those pictures were so very sad and it must be terrible for those folks left behind to mourn loved ones.

It really is a selfless job. Even during the California fires they would come into my work to get something to eat and use the hydrant to fill up the engine and I said thank you to them but I didn't know what I could possibly say that would show them how gratefull I really was. I know that one way I show my appreciation is when it is time to vote and initiatives come up that give more funds to fire-fighting and public protection I vote yes instead of freaking out about taxes...Well if any Fire Fighters read this thank you and God Bless you! You Rock!

Well having about 8 years of boxing training along with about as much wrestling, being a Scorpio with Capricorn ascendant, moon in Leo, Mercury and Venus also in Scorpio. I would have to say for having such a heavily fixed chart I am pretty well tried, tested, and proven. I believe it depends on will power, emotional control, and skill. Cardinal signs Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, and Libra are known to be the most likely to excel in military and combat sports because of their initiating nature. Me being a fixed sun, moon, mercury, and Venus definitely adds staying power. A tremendous will. And stubborn as hell. Just look at the fixed and stubborn nature of a Taurus. Whenever cardinal (also Martian and Plutonian) energy is found, will be a fighting spirit and a metaphorical kick in the a** for the placements inhabitants. Fixed signs have strong wills and often have a hard time letting go of anything they are truly passionate about. Whatever that may be.

Very sad turn of events indeed and no, we don't give them enough respect. They do a terrific job, putting their lives on the line, can almost be compared to our fighting soldiers. Even sadder when it seems the fire could be a result of arson in which case I presume the arsonist will be facing a manslaughter charge.

That's the kind of thing that makes me sick about the amount of credit and pay footballers for example get. I mean people like fire fighters risk there own lifes to save other people and don't get much credit for it, then you get a highly paid footballer like david beckham,. ok fair enough he's good at what he does but he's so highly paid for doing what he loves, but he's never risked his life to save anyone. All these celebritys have jobs and earn losts of money and most of them are on reality tv shows to begin with and then after there rich, i just think footballers, singers, comedians, entertainers are too comercalised, and we need to take more notice of the real heros who are fighting to save lifes, like docters, fire fighters, ect xxxxx

I agree. They are heroes and deserve our respect and much more. But then, the real heroes of our society are never properly rewarded nor respected. Widowers of our soldiers who give their lives for the rest of us, the fire fighters who literally die for us, the nurses to treat us in our hospitals without having the right to ever get tired. That's how we seem to reward these people. Footballers, ahh yes, they "deserve" millions for kicking a ball around and people like ***@ole Britney Spears who can't even sing, and is a symbol of stupidity well, deserve to be millionaires. So i fully agree with you. Have a star
