I have been in Europe for a year. Please tell me what you know about the following developments during my absence.

1) Natalie Holloway: did they ever find out what happened to this girl who disappeared a few years ago in Aruba?

2) Why isn't Newt Gingrich running for President? Have people ever mentioned the possibility of a Newt Gingrich - Condaleezza Rice ticket? If the Republican front-runners have lackluster support, do you think it could happen last minute?

3) Do many people seriously believe we will have to attack Iran to stop their nuclear program?

4) What's the most interesting or oddest story Bill O'Reilly has had on his show this past year?

5) Hillary seems like she has too much baggage to win; Obama seems like too much of a flash in the pan. Do either have a chance of winning?

I live in the San Diego County area, well away from the fires, but I do have a question.

Considering the environment, climate, etc., how long would it take to put out an actual fire? The Witch fire is far from being put out; likewise with a few of the other fires surrounding San Diego.

However, the fires near L.A. are almost contained. Is it because these fires were relatively small compared to the ones in San Diego?

Your opinion is much appreciated.

I've been paying close attention to this latest catastrophe and noticed the difference in reporting. Why aren't these people being classifed as "refugees" They are in the san diego chargers stadium, they have been displaced. Aren't they refugees too? Why are they instead referring to them as "homeowners" or "residents" where they were calling those affected by hurricane katrina "refugees"

Anybody have any leads on who these people are?

There are more than 12 points of origin for these fires. This seems to be a concerted effort. As you come across info please post it here. Thanks!

Do you think the California Firestorms could be terrorist related? Some of the fires were caused by arson. Who is to say that the arsonist is not a terrorist in some way or a devil worshiper or a pyromaniac? We've been warned of terror attacks we least expect, could this be it?? What is your opinion??

Should I join the American Communist Party?
I realize that its a lost cause. But I do support China. And the way I see it, America is so corrupt and decadent, that if I try to change things "inside the system", I'll either lose out to people more cruel than me, or become so evil myself that I won't stand for anything.

Better to be a man of good character fighting for a lost cause than a successful goon. Look at all of history's heroes with the exception of militrary men like Napoleon, none of them played inside the sytem even when thier cause seemed dire and hopeless.

I'm not looking for a history lesson here. I know the "Dirty little secrets" of communism, like the back of my hand. But I support the communist Part of china. What I'm looking for is philsophical feedback on what is a better life spent. Fighting inside the system hoping to work your way up and make a difference or fighting outside the system for a "pure and noble" cause with no chance of victory?

The CPUSA is the ONLY party that supports the government in China.

I've read questions about which political party will BENEFIT from the fires and is it totally political for Bush to declare this a disaster area.

To me that is cruel and heartless when you look at the millions of people that have been affected by these fires!

JUST IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY, I heard that 950k people have been evacuated. 1,000 homes have been destroyed. At least 1 person has died. Firefighters and civilians have been burned. People have a hard time breathing with all the smoke.

My main problems are not being able to breathe and I've had a headache for 3 days. My cat is freaking out and I'm alone since my husband is out of town on business.

Am I over too sensitive because I am in the middle of this disaster or are these a bunch of twits that don't know what it's like and don't care?

So a few years ago when katrina happened there was looting and people in the stadium fighting and it was a horrible situation, but know we have the same situation where we have peopls homes destroyed in san diego and mass amounts of people living in a stadium without any fighting. people are volunteering and getting along...whats the difference?

You were first left at home alone by your parents (like after school etc)

I think I was probably 11/12 and used to cook the dinner while mum was at work and take care of my 2 younger brothers.

I ask this because a friend of mine told me a friend of his spent 6 hours in the police station last week for leaving her 12 year old at home while she visited a neighbour, I was stunned!

PLEASE, THIS IS NOT A McCANN Q AND I REALLY DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THEM.

Over the last day or so a number of McFanns, eager to point the finger at anyone other than Kate and Gerry, have picked up on a story about the Police re-examining Robert Murat. However what the McFanns failed to mention is that the actual story is this...

'The main theory of the investigators is that Madeleine left the apartment and went looking for her parents while they were having dinner in the Tapas restaurant. Half-asleep, she fell down ten stairs and died accidentally. Her body was found by Gerry McCann who then asked for help from Robert Murat, described as a friend of the couple by the paper'

Now why did the McFanns forget to mention this bit ?

If officials said the fires are NOT terrorists why is the "Homegrown Terrorist Prevention Act of 2007" being rushed into legislature.

section 899A claus 1:

HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

sounds great but read between the lines...the Secretary and his various deligates can easily identify an group of peaceful protestors and say "We have evidence that suggest these individuals were planning on using force to coerce the population into their idealism."
and boom--instant terrorists "BECAUSE WE SAID SO"...and once considered terrorists by the defence department, the constitution is void.

I hope everyone knows about the Sept. 12 abduction of a 20 year old Black woman who was sodomized and tortured by 6 White people (men and women). I don't see it in the news very often and it makes me angry to think that if the races were reversed, it would've been plastered everywhere. We wouldn't be able to get away from it. But, I feel that the media is really holding back b/c this was a young Black woman who was victimized. I am outraged and sickened that back-woods, redneck, sickos who would do something like this still exist. I like in the Washington DC area, so I often think that I am "spoiled" against blatant, overt racism like this. DC is a pretty much "minority rich" area (not many White people at all). I shocks and scares me that in 2007 people still harbor this kind of violent racism. It scares me more that my American news media doesn't see the value in letting us know about the ugliness of our country as well as the good. We need to be aware in order to change.

Several years ago the supreme court ruled that The Boy Scouts of America were well within their rights to block homosexuals from becoming leaders. Part of their oath is to keep themselves morally straight and they back it up.
Personally I think that in a day and age when pedophilia is rampant that this policy is added protection.
Now the city of Philadelphia is jumping on the punishment band wagon and jeking their support of this wonderful program.
