Different type of people. And different type of leaders in charge. Watch the recovery. That will be a real eye opener.

Mnnnnnn......Well let's look at it:

California is a driving culture where everyone owns lots of cars and there are lots of really wide roads everywhere so that people can get from point A to point B. Most of the people in New Orleans didn't have cars and there are only a few major roads going in and out of town.

Southern California is the nation's largest media hub, along with New York. Everyone has immediate access to up-to-date emergency and news information. Everyone is informed a lot faster and at the same time about what's going on, so there's less confusion.

New Orleans was flooded. Many people were told to evacuate, but they hesitated or chose to stay because flooding isn't as immediately threatening as FIRE. The people in California got the word to as they could see massive flames coming right at them and they got the heck out because they didn't have any choice. The main reason that the California evacuations are moving faster is that the people are evacuating themselves. Most of the people in New Orleans waited until the government came to get them.

Everyone needs to stop trying to make this into some sort of racial issue. Southern California is the most ethnically diverse region of the entire country. And most of the people affected by the fires are not white, nor are they rich. What's everyone's point - that if you keep saying that Katrina was worse, the fires will magically go out and everyone's homes will suddenly grow back? You people need to grow up.

Pretty foolish of the people saying that it is because it's mainly white...fyi, Escondido is very very populated with Hispanics, and everyone firefighter is lifting a finger just as much as the one in the Rancho Berbardo, or Poway or Scripps area. It has nothing to do with race and culture, it has to do with doing the right thing to save peoples lives. My husband was so right! Ignorant people were going to start saying that the people of Katrina got no help, blah blah blah! Please stop pulling the racial card. It all has to do with the prepareness your city or state has. What your own politicians are willing to do for you and your community. Or governor Arnold was right in the scene with the fires, where were Kartina's people???? So stop being empty headed and think about it, if anything, you have offended me since I am one of the many living through this nightmare. Hvae some heart, at least us San Diegans do.

I live in Southern California. We have wildfires every year, usually not this bad, although the fires of 2003 were right up there. Because we have the fires every year (every October, usually), we are prepared for them. Hurricane Katrina came out of nowhere. Hurricanes are hard to predict.

Well because the community affected for the most part is rich and affluent. California has more pull with the Feds as we are a leading world economy and our state government is not as riddled with corruption like New Orleans. Plus a house on fire is a lot easier to evacuate from then a city completely underwater. Oh and Californians are used to natural disasters (mainly earthquakes) so we are better prepared when they do occur.

Well, since the San Diego residents are WHITE--The PRESIDENT IS THERE, AID IS THERE, AND THERE'S EVEN 24 HOUR HELP FOR THE "PETS", whereas the blacks in New Orleans were left to die FOR 7 FULL DAYS BEFORE THE PRESIDENT LIFTED A FINGER---so, ummmmmm, I think its typical "White World Of Priveldege" Thing that you never like to admit exists.
