i'm trying to build an electric bike and all the nuts seem to have some rubber inside the thread which means the nut won't go all the way down the screw, so I can't tighten it. Do you think I'm supposed to scrape the rubber out somehow? One of the nuts has the rubbery bit missing and seems to work fine.

Does anyone have an idea of what a comparable central heating unit (electric) would cost. We have converted everything else over to electricity (range and water heater) and would really like to change the heating too. The unit that we have is about 10 years old and works perfectly but we also would like to put in a new one because we are selling the house in a few months and "new" always sells better. Any idea of cost of conversion and cost of unit. I know I can call a heating & air company but it is midnight now and they are not open and I am curious.

Can it be translated to inches? I was looking at a description of a metal pipe that said "10 gauge 2 bolt clamp hinge" but I couldn't find the defination of "gauge" anywhere. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can answer that for me.

It will fill with water and during the spin cycle it doesn't spin and when it drains half of the water is still in there, should I call a repairman or is this a do-it-yourself. It's a Whirlpool model LXR714EQ0.

After the towel bar in my bathroom had become loose, I attempted to tighten the screws but found that the large drywall plugs had created rupee-sized holes. How do I repair the holes in a manner that will allow me to rehang the bar in the same spot?

In our bathroom we have ceramic tiles glued on to the walls to about the 4 ft mark. Can these tiles be painted? Or should I just take them off and re-drywall the area?

I installed a new kitchen sink faucet, and now it makes a weird thumping sound every few seconds when the water is turned on. I adjusted the water pressure, which slowed the noise repetitions down a little, but it's still there, and terribly annoying...

Was thinking there was an air pocket in the line somewhere.. or something, I'm not a plumber *shrug*

What can I do to make this noise go away?

Thanks!

I live in an apartment and I had the water pipe to the toilet burst in my bathroom around midnight. Of course it broke BEFORE the shut off valve, so my bathroom was rapidly filling with water.
I put down a dam of towels at the door and called the super.

The supers responded immediately, shut off the water to the whole apartment and called in a plumber to fix it.
Because the pipe was so badly rusted he had to knock a hole in the wall and it seems at some time he cut himself on the wire mesh behind the tiles...

So by 2 am the pipe was fixed, the toilet back together and the large debris picked up...

BUT...

My bathroom floor was covered in bits of tile and small debris, the wet towels had been dumped in the tub, bottom of the tub was covered in grit and rust) and there was blood on the floor, sink and also the tiles.

Am I expecting too much to think that the workman or super should have made an effort to clean up more of the mess?
Or at least the blood?!?
