My backyard is a sloping hill with weeds. I have put down black plastic tarp and covered it with mulch and planted plants, but the darn weeds still grew thru the plastic. I took up tarp and put more mulch, LOTS of mulch hoping to kill the weeds, and sprayed with weed killer, STILL have weeds. I'm at a loss as to how to grow plants and flowers without getting alll the weeds. I NEED HELP! Thanks to anyone who can advise me.

I had my maple tree trimmed today by a company that I have trusted in the past. They have been around at least 15 years but I haven't needed to use them for awhile. Anyway, I noticed that the men were just breaking off the smaller branches that were close them. These weren't just dead branches but live ones too. They were probably less than an inch around. At first I thought they would probably come along and trim back the whole limb where they did this but that was not always the case. Should I be concerned? When I look at the tree the majority of the cuts were made with a saw but a few were broken. and are therefore jagged.

I have a lot of bricks and want to make them into an edge to my garden. I want them to be on an angle with one end down in the ground. Is there a trick to this? I have started three times, and every time the line of bricks starts slanting a little more or less or starts to go lower. Is there some formula I can use to get it right. Thanks!

I am planning on buying a bunch of it to put down on the lawn, so will this be good for all plants and perennials as well as opposed to 10-10-10? (not much difference is it?)

My wife just bought me a fantastic fountain for outside - it's concrete and in seven different sections - each section of course getting considerably lighter as it gets to the top.

Here's my delimia - we had to pick it up in the truck and I could load everything myself except the largest basin. The employees at the concrete place helped load that section. Now that I'm home, I have no way to get it off the ground!!!
My wife is small and my son is too small to do much good at this point. We just moved here so we have no friends, all my close neighbors are elderly women who live alone and the people at the concrete business wouldn't deliver.

Now I have a 200.00 fountain that I can't use because I can't get it set up (grrrrrr!)

Any suggestions on how one tiny man can lift this by himself - just about two feet off the ground?

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Is this their 'hardening off' time? How much more 'hardening off time' do they need once you get them home?I purchases 'Texas Betony' and kept it under grow lights inside because it was rainy and overcast for 2 weeks. I took it outside for three days partly sunny days, then planted it in partsun/partshade. Now its wilting little by little. Is it dying? Was it still too early? No more frost here in North Texas1

In your experience gardening, what one mistake have you made that was most costly in terms of time and/or money? This is something in your range of control you could have/should have done differently (things like unseasonably late frosts or rare plagues of pest don't count).

Yesterday I planted two beefsteak tomato plants, a cayenne pepper plant and three June-bearing strawberry plants with a nice selection of herbs in between (chamomile, sage, basil, parsley, dill, etc.)

I amended the soil with some decayed cow manure and sprinkled the transplanted plants with warm water. Other than that, I haven't done anything to them.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there's anything else I need to do in the meantime. I plan to continue watering them for another week barring any rain. Thanks!

I've heard that adding dish soap to your yard while watering has some sort of benefit to the grass. What is this benefit?

I'm digging a flower bed in my backyard. In Pearland, TX (a suburb outside Houston) we have lots of clay. So digging a hold just big enough for a bulb probably will not allow for enough room to grow. How much do I have to dig to allow for some flowers to bloom freely?
