What you are doing wrong is watering them too much. This is spring. They are already getting a ton of water from all the rain. If it was the middle of summer and it was dry as could be you might need to water them everyday, but not during the spring when we get plenty of rain.

What is happening is that due to all of the water the roots aren't getting oxygen and are literally drowning then rotting. Look at the roots when you pull the brown ones up. The roots won't look good at all instead of alive and hard like live ones. Only water them right after planting them then afterwards only when the ground is getting pretty dry.

I am having the same problem BUT I haven't watered them at all. They are in a partial shade depending on the time of day. They came up beautiful but browned too quickly. Any other thoughts???
