I want to do a tribute to Wrigley field so to speak on my house. I have the ivy planted its been there for a year, but I want to know how to get it to grow up the brick wall.

Ivy can be very bad for brick walls. the roots dig in and can cause the wall to grow weak and fail. I would use a false front to get the ivy covered look. But leave a few inches between it and the brick wall. Lattice would work nicely.

If it is growing slow or all over the place it might be worth it to trim it up a bit

Once it starts getting a little longer, use something to attach it to the wall. If you can put in a nail and wrap it around it. Otherwise Lattis on the brick works well too. Just keep building it up and moving the ivy up. Once it realizes it should climb it will soar

The one time I failed to let it grow up the wall I pondered and pondered and pondered... until it hit me... the wall was way too dry and my ivy felt like: yeah go climb that oven yourself.... So, I put a sprinkler/ gardenhose besides the wall, and sprayed it from time to time... I bound the ivy on a stick close to the wall again and hey presto... slowly but surely it went up the wall. and 2 years of regularly spraying and making sure it had enough water and food it is now established and doesnt need anymore help in growing further up the wall. I had a small-leaved ivy...

Buy a tall trellis. They make these specifically for growing ivy up.

I put mine in tiny cracks"in between bricks and after they get started they found their own.

attach it with hangers or run a trellis for it to grab to.
