Annual, the plant itself dies as the seed (ears of corn) mature and dry out.

It should also be treated as a rotational...soil benefits from growing legumes and digging them back in to rest and recharge the soil

it's annual, otherwise farmers wouldn't plant it's seed (the corn kernal) year after year.
