We recently moved into our first home (lived in apartments before). I have always been sort of a frustrated gardener- I've had lots of container plants. Now that I have a HUGE yard, I want to start a vegetable and herb garden. The problem is, we have lots of rabbits that visit our yard every day, and there are mice in the field behind us (they come into our yard sometimes). I am an animal lover and do not want to poison, trap, or otherwise "get rid of" these animals, but I don't want them to eat all my veggies (or make the mouse problem worse). Is there anything I can do to protect my garden or discourage these animals from coming in my yard (I have a dog and a cat, but they still come in).

Any serious ideas would be appreciated.

I received 4 single stemmed roses on Valentine's Day, and I left them in water. The rose itself and the leaves dried up, but suprisingly, new green leaves emerged. I was wondering if it's possible to grow a rose bush/plant from a single stem that's blooming? If so, how can I achieve that?

Thanks.

I LOVE Gerberas - and I am not usually big on flowers. Gerberas just make me so happy whenever I look at them. I've received them as gifts a few times as well as bought the fresh cut ones. I see Gerbera plants - did anyone actually buy these plants and do they bloom again after the first few flowers die?

I'm going to start some seedlings indoors soon and can't afford to purchase a gardening lamp. Could I put a fluorescent light bulb in my tabletop desk lamp?

I know dactylifera means finger bearing, but what about this palm makes it "finger bearing?" Is it the fronds? The way the fruit hangs?

The carrots look fine this morning but the broccoli stems look like wet noodles. Did I lose the broccoli? What did I do wrong?
This is my first garden. I have made a raised bed outside to grow the new vegs. If it got too cold, wouldn't the carrots look bad too?
