Some pine trees once established grow too high and fast and if not trimmed might need to be removed later. Leylandi or similar are very fast growing and are really only suitable for a very large garden. Neighbours can complain about the height if allowed to grow too high. Smaller evergreen hedges are better suited to the smaller garden, but they all take time to become established. Thuga Green giant is one of the fastest growing hedges.

Leylandi are the fastest. I planted a lot round the boundary of my garden about 15 years ago. I am now starting to dig them out as they are very difficult to keep on top of. If you do not keep trimming them every year they can get very out of control. The ones in my garden must have been about 15-20 ft tall and that is because I had not touched them for a year or two.
Watch out as they will create a lot of gardening work in the future!!

lliandi - not sure of the spelling but these grow strong, tall and vigorously very quickly. You have to be careful not to plant to near the house as they can cause damage, and I would consult with the neighbours as there have been frequent disputes about such planting taken to the law courts. Other than that, they are strong and quick growing and can look attractive in the right setting.

Be careful with leylandi as it it can grow over a metre in one season so it needs constant care and if your in Britain you must get permission to plant them as they are very quick growing. Check with your council to find out.

Leylandii - but beware. It grows very tall and very quickly. Many areas refuse to allow you to grow it, so check first.
It blocks out the light and can cause serious problems for your neighbours.
