Now you know not to handle those chiles without rubber gloves. I have pretty good luck with a fork & knife though.

I once accidentally touched near an eye after handling chiles. Believe or not breathing warm air from a hairdryer is the only thing that gave relief after much rinsing with water (which only spread it). I have NO idea why that worked, fooled my brain? The other eye teared and burned sympathetically!

Why did you use habaneros? There are other chiles of different 'heat' that may suit your zing purposes as well and add enjoyable flavor.

Habanero excretes an oil, wash hand with alcohol or bleach to cut the oil, then wash with soap, wear rubber gloves when picking, so not touch your face or mouth. When cooking, windows open, fans on high blowing away from you.
Anything with an acid base will cut that oil.

What ever you do.. do not use soap first because that will make it sting more... I also think the milk might be your best bet. And use cold water not warm or hot either when you go to wash your hands after the milk. And if you have an aloe vera plant or gel you "might" want to try rubbing that on your hands.

I had this problem a few months back. I tried every thing possible nothing worked totally. I did soak my hands in ice water that helped a little, but the best advise is time. It took about 4-5 hours for the burn to stop.

bathe them in milk or vinegar. Or you can purchase burn spray at a pharmacy. Either of these ways should do the trick.
