Our family has a curry tree which we got from a friend in florida which we brought to our home in georgia 2 years ago. We dug out the tree, then put it in a small pot and drove back to GA. The tree is really a sapling, only about 2 feet tall. We put it in a bigger pot (about 15" diameter at the top, 12" at the bottom). After the 5 hr drive, it started to wilt (quite understandably), so when we reached home we gave it water and sunlight but it never lost the wilt. We gave it plant food a couple times as well, but to no avail. Even its new leaves are wilted. Its nice, green, aromatic, with normal leaf size/shape, but a few (not all) of the leaves are wrinkly and they all are parallel to the trunk, instead of parallel with the ground (I hope I am being clear). The leaves just seem to be limp. We also moved to upstate new york this summer, and since its kind of cold, we keep it inside during the winter. Any suggestions? also, how can you maintain a tropical tree in a cold climate?

I want to start a garden in the spring infront of my south facing living room window. There is a tree on my front lawn, but it is still not all that big. I figure it to be about 2 story's high at the moment but I don't yet know what kind it is.

I don't have a lot of money to work with, but I would like my place to look nice, I miss my garden since we moved here. I left a garden full of alysum and the name if the other flower has slipped my mind right now, it has pea sized white seeds and the flowers were yellow, orange and orange-red. It was also crawling. Anyway we moved the end of July to a townhouse with garden space in front, but nothing in it, except my recycle and compost bins right now.

I had the idea to put in some spikes, probably either 1 big one in the middle or 1 on each end. If the one I have now survives through this currently snowless winter, I will use it in the garden. I am not sure what flowers to use in this garden though. I like calendulas and dwarf buddies.

We have a warm winter here in Boston. The crocus in my garden , which usually flower in the spring, got confused and started to sprout. Unfortunately we are going to have snow next week. What can I do to protect those young plants so that they will still bring us flowers in the spring?

We live on a ranch in SD - the only thing I hate about it is the unbelievable amount of dog ticks every spring and summer. GROSS! I can remove a tick a minute (or faster!) from our animals but I'll never get used to them. We do use a rub-on gel (Advantix I think?) and tick collars for the animals and I guess they help... We keep the ground cover near the house very short. I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with a particular type of poultry (2 geese didn't seem to make a dent in our tick population!) or maybe someone has tried praying mantis? Which wild birds would help the most - maybe I could encourage them through plantings and feeding? We have robins & sparrows around now. I would like to be more prepared this spring, if I can. Thank you for any help or suggestions!! ps I'm one of the only two people I know who tics never attach to - they must know how much I hate them! LOL

My husband and I purchased a Costa Rican carved gourd on our honeymoon. We would like to put some plants in it but it doesn't have any holes for water to drain. It was traditionally used to carry water. Can we use it for plants? Are there plants better suited for a container that the water would not drain it?

My lawn is starting to get over-run by creeping bentgrass which is immune to Roundup and any other weed killer I know of. The bentgrass looks ok during the growing season but turns completely brown in the winter months. I just have large patches of it so far so I would like not to plow up the whole yard and start over. And even that probably would not get rid of the bentgrass.

How often do you water cacti?

I recently got a small pot with 3 different cacti and a jade tree in it from the supermarket. I was wonder how often I would need to water it. I know not often because they are desert plants.

I found these in my yard yesterday. They look like some sort of egg. Does anyone know what it is? All of them have one little hole in them. I don't know if that is because something hatched out of them, or something like a bird ate what was in it. We've had lots of rain here so they were very soft to the touch. They were found on top of the ground, but don't know if the rain had something to do with that. I read somewhere about a website something like whatsthatbug.com does anyone know if that is correct or if there is another website I could upload this picture? Thanks.

I have this office park not far from my house and there were many tall slender pines on the territory....now those pines did not pose any danger to anything, neither the parking lots nor the office building. Recently about half of pines were cut down. They didn't cut pines in a certain area, but they randomly picked and cut down all over the place.

What was the point of that? (not construction, because they only removed some pines) is it possible that that way the other pines will get more room to grow?

Leaves on my indoor jalapeno plant are curling and flowers that bloom are dropping off rather than fruiting.

I have it indoors, and here at work where it gets constant UV light (at home it was next to a window with a draft on it), and I occasionally (not as much as I should) water it with Miracle-Gro Plant Food 15-30-15. I do water it when the soil appears dry.

Several months ago I transportted it to a new pot (it was rootbound) where after getting over the shock, it did well, but now has slowed down.

Also, is there a secret to cutting off the jalapenos?

Thanks!
