There are some new AT&T underground cable orange and white poles in my neighborhood. Are these permanent? They are insightly.

If they ARE going to leave it as is, no matter what, then it would be cool if some unknown citizen spray painted the one you see from your living room>>>and as long as it was only one pole or a couple of poles then there probably wouldn't be a problem with someone coming along and accidentally digging into the cables.

or maybe some unknown gardener might come along and plant a series of vines right where all those posts happen to be...

It would be cool if AT&T used green or brown poles and wrote "caution" on them instead and the words of warning wouldn't stick out much to those of us who didn't actually have a shovel in hand looking to dig right there.

or they could follow PG&E's lead and not use signs at all. Just have a toll free phone # to call so that construction crews could know where the cables are buried.

or MADE THEIR CABLES SO THEY WOULDN"T BREAK!!

or put in little alarms which shrilled out when the cable was disturbed...

Usually--they mark where they have installed new cables, usually fiber optic. They need them there to make sure no one digs through them.
