We installed a fence on our property and 3 of the sprinkler heads that we have on the property are outside the fence. We need to move those sprinkler heads inside the fence so the plants & grass can be watered.

IF you don't have to move them more than a foot or so you can buy a plastic flex line. dig around the head until you find where it screws into the pipe. unscrew it and screw in the flex line. screw the head on the other end and you can position the head wherever you want and back fill. Picture a sprinkler head on a hose if you will. If you have to go further than a foot or so you will need to tie in the same way but use PVC pipe to move it over. Trust me it sounds alot harder than it really is. Shouldn't take a few minutes per head. Relatively cheap if you hire someone! Good luck. Parts can be found at Home crappo/ Lowe's/ or any landscaping store!

Moving Sprinkler Heads

Well its an easy job, but a bit messy.

1) Determine the location and alignment of the pipes that feed each of the sprinklers (some digging will be required but usually after the first two or three holes you will have a good idea of what is going where.)

2) It may all be on a single line or it may be on three separate lines, but in each case, find where the pipe is about a foot on to your property.

3) If your pipe is plastic, you will need the following;
a) Plastic Pipe cutter
b) Fittings and sch. 40 plastic pipe to complete the job
c) New sprinkers with the proper spray heads

4) PVC cement (a applicator jar with brush...not some small tube)

If your pipe is steel, then you will also need teflon tape and a pvc adaptor to convert to plastic

5) Make sure the valve is closed for the sprinkler line

6) For steel pipe, cut the pipe and unscrew the pipe from its first joint on the water side of the pipe. Install the adaptor. For PVC pipe simply cut the pipe and glue on a coupling.

7) Dig the trenches for your new pipe. Typically a shovel wide and a shovel head deep.

8) Lay your new pipe. Cutting and gluing it as necessary. Your final pieces should end in a 1/2" diameter female fitting facing up.

9) Put 1/2" nipples into the fittings and backfill the pipe leaving the nipple ends exposed.

10) Turn on the water briefly to blow out any mud or dirt that was overlooked in the pipe

11) Place your new sprinkler heads (unless the old ones are really new, just replace them ) on to the nipples and aim them.

12) Turn it back on and check for leaks, clogged heads and direction...

You are done. Abandon the old pipeline in place.. just fill in the location holes you dug.

thats all there is to it.. a nice afternoon's work and about $20 in parts

You will need to dig the line up and cut off the lines that go to the other yard then cap them off.
