Have a problem growing roses. The prev spots may not be getting enough sun. We're kind of limited as dont want to have to mow around a ton plants. We took some huge bushes out from the front of our house & could possibly plant it there next spring along w/3 new bushes planted there this fall. The front faces west. The back faces east. To the south is driveway. The north end is narrow. We have picture window in the living room, but there's a maple tree in yard in front of it & to right of the tree is the driveway. Lot is approx 152' long by 52' wide. Bathroom & bedroom windows on left, but no tree in front of them. All face west. Back leftside are 2 kitchen windows, but garage & tree might shade that area. Right side back are other 2 bedrooms windows. Back maple tree kind of shades it all as it's taller than the front tree, but has smaller leaves. Sunnier by nw bedroom back left, but prev roses died there. What to feed/fertilize roses, & how much water to give them? Thanks.

What are the some of the main rules or guidelines for creating a good attractive border garden? Including elements like spacing, bunching, colors, heights, species etc. I have a space that is 10 feet wide and 12 feet long between the fence and the street. Thanks in advance.

I am now on my own after a long marriage and either my ex wife or my mother has done my laundry all my life. When my laundry comes out I want it smelling fresh and clean as if it was hung out on the line to dry on a warm spring day. What is the trick? How do people get their laundry smelling so fresh? I try using scented fabric softener, but I dump a cap full in at prewash. I don't have one of those places on my washer to fill it so that the washing machine uses it when it wants to. My washing machine and dryer are about 12 years old and do not have all of the fancy shmancy computer controls to add fabric softeners. Also, what is the best detergent to use? Is it the detergent that makes laundry small fresh? Powder or liquid? It's not that my laundry doesn't smell clean, it just really doesn't have a smell at all. I want the strong, scented fresh smell!! What's the secret? Give me the steps!

to replace my trusty homelite xl2, which had a 12" bar and was so light I could cut with one hand. They don't make it anymore but instead have a 14" model which is too heavy for me.

I WANNA CUT SOMETHING!!!

My house A/C started to act up a few days ago, and noticed a LOT of ice build up on the evaporator coils where the filters go. The filters were not heavily clogged nor were the evaporator coils. I've checked the outside fan and heard the compressor making its normal buzzing noise, everything seems fine there. From what I've researched it sounds like its very low on freon. So my questions are, how is it that if the A/C unit is very low on freon its still able to "freeze" the entire evaporator coil?? Doesn't it need freon in the first place to accomplish this? Second, after I find and fix the leak, will a standard auto A/C hose work to add freon? I know a lot of you will say to hire a professional but I feel that its a bunch of B.S. to pay some jerkweed $500 when I can do it myself w/ a little advice. I know it will be hard to get freon w/out a license (R22) but I will try to get some. Please only respond if you have any real advice other than suggest hiring someone. Thanks

My clients are too cheap to buy spring bulbs. I, however love that particular yellow sulfur look, anytime of year...

I snuck in some of it with these plants:

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare 'rubrum' I planted pretty late. I noticed one bloom two weeks ago. If it doesn't seed properly, will it come back by root alone? I'm in a 6a zone (i think), but prefer to plan for zone 5.

Patrinaia gibbosa looks ok. its leafs browned out in full sun after blooming, but managed to put out smaller blooms in autumn even after a full seeding. It is in really bad soil.

False Lupine (Thermoopsis caroliniania) in bad soil. I belive I saw these in bloom at an upscale nursery and fell in love. I found them again on the $1 rack. total experiment.

I have a fourth but i can't recall the name (gold alyssum?). It blooms early to midspring and has velvety fuzzy silver leaves. It thrives in dry rocky environs. It supposedly self seeds like crazy.
A very sexy plant for me.

Hints? Tips?
