It's a fluorescent bulb, about 2.5 ft long. There apepars to be no switch on it. Turning the bulb does not yield any result, either. What could I possibly be missing here?

Perhaps he used a door switch (as used in a refrigerator) - when you open the door, the light goes on and when you close the door, the light goes off. Check the doorjamb. If you find nothing, call the electrician.

The electrician may have connected it to the light in the room with the closet. Turn that light on and see if the light in the closet comes on.

Call the electrician and ask him where the on/off switch is. He is suppose to show you how to operate the light before he leaves.

did he have a license? You can't complete an electrical circuit without a switch. call this dude and complain. I could install a light of any kind and show you how to turn it on. no switch to be found? no light!
