I wouldn't say I am tidy all the time.
It's hard keeping up, but it's not impossible for you.
The tough part is cleaning everything to your liking. Dust and polish your appliances and furniture. Once you are done, just put things back where they belong- each and EVERY TIME.
Clean up after yourself and make that a habit, such as putting away your dishes, throwing your laundry in hamper instead of leaving them to pile on the floor.
Learning easy habits like that will help you when it's time to get down to CLEANING everything.
Just MAINTAIN is the key.
Good Luck.

i cant stand a lot of mess / clutter in the house. if you have a lot of people in the house assign them an "responsibility" ...this is different than chores... responsibility is something you have to do in life, everyone has them. have everyone put all their dishes in the dish washer at night and then when everyone has their dishes in turn the dishwasher on, in the morning put them away... same with laundry do a load a day....the more time you keep your house tidy the less mess you will have to clean the next day

One room at a time, literally. Kids are responsible for their bedrooms, not me. If I clean their rooms, I do it with a trash can not the dresser and closet. Everyone in the house -- hubby, kids, father-in-law, etc. are responsible for their own things -- hang up their own coats, etc. If I have to pick them up, I dump them in a pile in front of their bedroom door so they HAVE to pick it up to get into their own room. For the rest of the house, I do one room a day. Saturdays, I clean the bathroom and do laundry. Sunday, I finish laundry and clean the kitchen. Monday, I pick-up the living room. And so on. Also everyone in the house has chores to do to help with the house because they help make the messes too!

I was a supreme slob when I lived with my parents, so I guess I'm over compensating now, and it's causing a real problem because I don't get any help from the lazy bums that live here with me
