Apartment living is where I am. I have a galley kitchen and not enough space for a kitchen table, although, I have a bar and 2 chairs and am making an island. My project is a table that I can attach to the wall with a piano hinge making it possible to close it to the wall when not in use. I want to use a slice of wood that is 35 x 35". I think this can be done with a piano hinge, and of course I will also have to attach a stand, probably using a piano hinge there, too. Does anybody have any other suggestions that don't seem too complicated or intricate. I do have some tools to work with. A black & decker power drill, sander, jigsaw, various screw drivers, awls & several different hammers, but most of these tools are the basic homeowner tools. No big-boy stuff, if ya know what I mean. Anybody have any other suggestions?

I have three avocado trees in office. They grew very fast in the first month, but suddenly stoped. How to take care of them? Should I water them a lot or a little? How do I recognize if they are male or female?

I have just recently purchased some unfinished open wooden boxes from the craft store and would like to stain them, particularly with a dark wood stain, almost a black with maybe some very subtle red grain coming through. I think I am looking for a gel stain. Something that has a waxy look. Or maybe need a regular stain and then need to polish it with a clear wax. I think the gel stain or wax tones the black coloring down. I am looking for that asian style. A lot of furniture in Pier 1 has what I am looking for. Before I screw all the blocks together and attach legs to it to transform it into a small kitchen island, I would like to get this done. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

I also plan to do lighting and kitchen faucets in an antique brass finish. The cabinets are inset cabinets with the antique brass hinges showing as well.

We had it inspected and cleaned because the house is quite old, and it was fine. We use seasoned, dry wood. But last night we had our first fire of the season after making sure we did everything right, and the house still became smokey, and today I have a killer headache. What are we doing wrong? It would save us so much money on heating if we could figure out how to use it without smoking ourselves out.

What I am interested in is covering the panel walls in my apartment with fabric. I think I remember seeing somewhere that you could actually soak fabric in magic sizing or spray starch and then place it on the walls and it would stay there, actually stick to walls. And if you want to remove it, you are supposed to be able to just douse it with a spray bottle of water and it will peel right off. Has anyone heard of this? Or done it? I cannot put up anything permanent, I just rent. I wanted to whitewash the panelling as I have done that before & it looks beautiful but landlord says, "NO!" He says I can staple fabric on it if I wish, but am really interested in the magic sizing or spray starch thing. Have tried to locate information about this on web with no luck, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
