Apartment living is where I am. I have a galley kitchen and not enough space for a kitchen table, although, I have a bar and 2 chairs and am making an island. My project is a table that I can attach to the wall with a piano hinge making it possible to close it to the wall when not in use. I want to use a slice of wood that is 35 x 35". I think this can be done with a piano hinge, and of course I will also have to attach a stand, probably using a piano hinge there, too. Does anybody have any other suggestions that don't seem too complicated or intricate. I do have some tools to work with. A black & decker power drill, sander, jigsaw, various screw drivers, awls & several different hammers, but most of these tools are the basic homeowner tools. No big-boy stuff, if ya know what I mean. Anybody have any other suggestions?

attach one side of 35 inch section of piano hinge to wall 30" up from floor. Attach other side of hinge to edge of 35"x35" wood so it will fold up against the wall. Next cut a leg 30" long (average table height) and attach it to underside of table with smaller piano hinge. When the table is not in use you can fold it up against the wall and the supporting leg will go up with it and fold flat against the underside of the table. You will need to devise a methos of holding it against the wall when not in use, I suggest a hook and ring like you can get for screen doors

good luck!!

Piano hinge will work, but you may have to cut it to length. I would suggest two offset hinges like you would use on a cupboard door. They are generally cheaper, and would screw to the underside of the table for better appearance. A simple butt hinge could be used for the leg.

mrk and luke are both right. One more idea, buy two handles, like for cabinet drawers, attache them horizontally to the wall. make two attachment hooks for the table part. When the table is not being used, you can store it in a closet, under the bed or couch
