What I am interested in is covering the panel walls in my apartment with fabric. I think I remember seeing somewhere that you could actually soak fabric in magic sizing or spray starch and then place it on the walls and it would stay there, actually stick to walls. And if you want to remove it, you are supposed to be able to just douse it with a spray bottle of water and it will peel right off. Has anyone heard of this? Or done it? I cannot put up anything permanent, I just rent. I wanted to whitewash the panelling as I have done that before & it looks beautiful but landlord says, "NO!" He says I can staple fabric on it if I wish, but am really interested in the magic sizing or spray starch thing. Have tried to locate information about this on web with no luck, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have done this and it looks great. All you have to do it soak the fabric in liquid starch straight from the bottle ( you can do it in the sink or a bucket and squeeze out the excess. Apply to the wall as you would wallpaper. When the time comes to remove, just pull it down,it does not need wetting and then wash the fabrics and reuse at your next place.

Yes, I have heard of this before. I read it in a mag a few years ago. It suggest just what u said either to soak the fabric or spray the walls and to take it off use water. U could also do by putting the fabric up by tacks( nice gold ones and now they have them in all colors like red, purple, green, shiny silver, blue). If u really not sure to do it. Put to me no harm will be done, if it works water will take it off if it doesn't then no harm. The only thing make sure its a simple material no faux sable, fur etc. Something that doesn't have a lot of layers and not heavy on it. Good luck.

You can do that. Go to the HGTV & DIY web sites & see if you can find the exact directions. I have see it on so many shows, I can't even remember who now...
The other thing that looks rather elegant, is getting thin strips of wood, & stapling your fabric to that, & pleat the fabric as you go. Then you turn it over, so the fabric goes over the top & staple that to the top of the wall. Anchor it at the bottom the same way if you can, or just gather & staple along the bottom. It looks really nice, & you don't have to worry about cleaning stuff off the wall when you go! Or matching seams!
Good luck!
