I'm looking to buy my mom a sewing machine. She's sewn all her life and I always remember her having a Brother and other similar machines growing up, but after she and my dad have moved so much, she no longer has one and does need one. She doesn't sew as much anymore, just once in a while, but I was looking at getting her the Pfaff Model # 1016. That's about what I can afford to buy her now. Any insights would be greatly appreciated as I am not that familiar with that brand.

I am planning on cleaning and painting a set of plastic patio furniture, and the instructions that I found at Krylon.com suggest cleaning the pieces with an ammonia-based cleaner before spray painting them. Is there a leading brand of ammonia-based cleaner that I should look for when I go to the store?

I'm moving to Northern Virginia in a week or two and will be looking at apartments. Besides actually spotting roaches, are there any warning signs there is a roach problem? Will my chances of having roaches be less if I live in a high-rise? How else, besides cleaning obviously, can I avoid roach infestation?

I did a few installations on my PC such as graphic cards, TV tuner, etc and nothing happened to me. Of course, I switched everything off and plug out the main switch. I notice you also need to do this when repairing handphones.

Our gas pool heater adds a huge cost onto our gas bill. It needs maintenance now. Has anyone set up one of the solar pool heaters. They look cheap & not very durable - but do they work?

We recently had to replace our toilet bowl because it broke, possibly from water freezing in it a few years ago. We got a used one from a friend but the water level is really high. What determines the water depth and is there anyway to modify it?

A lousy contractor I hired last year to lay down 1600 sq ft of plastic laminate flooring (which I like) in a busy space convinced me not to remove some floor tiles laying on 30% of the floor. There is now a large moving "bubble" due to the initial unevenness. Can this be repaired by drilling a hole and inserting floor glue even though the floor is not glued down? Any suggestions other than the obvious nightmare of removing the entire floor and starting new?

What is the best way to clean it? I've got a dog so it needs to be something thats gonna shift dirt, smell nice, and polish & sterilize.
I've been using a soapy solution made by pledge which is specially designed for use on wood and wood laminate floors but it leaves my floor all streaky. Has any one got any ideas?

So 2 q's...can i ax out the big sections of root grwoing new trees at teh base, and can i build the soil up a few inches, all w/out hurting the tree? My hardwood floors are pretty old and it looks as though small pieces of the wood have chipped away leaving not just scratchs but actually gaps in the floor (some about as long as an inch and as wide as a centimeter). Can I just use wood filler to repair or there something better?

I purchased a gently-used leather starter jacket from Craigslist. There are no stains, but it smells a little musty like it's been sitting in a closet. I'd like to deoderize / clean it. What is the cheapest, but best way. I considered putting it in the cleaners, but someone told me it would cost around $50, which is too much for my budget.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to have raised flower beds held in by a retaining wall along the front of your house? Are there any issues I should be concerned with?

I am fairly new to veggie gardening. My husband and I have done pretty well but we have cleared out our potatoes and the green beans are pretty much done and we were deciding if there are any veggies we can go a head and plant now or later in the summer or early fall. We are already planning on lettuce. Any other suggestions?
