I'm looking to buy my mom a sewing machine. She's sewn all her life and I always remember her having a Brother and other similar machines growing up, but after she and my dad have moved so much, she no longer has one and does need one. She doesn't sew as much anymore, just once in a while, but I was looking at getting her the Pfaff Model # 1016. That's about what I can afford to buy her now. Any insights would be greatly appreciated as I am not that familiar with that brand.

I have 6 sewing machines. My favorites are Bernina, but many of my friends love their Pfaff.
You main concern needs to be repair and customer service. While it may be cheaper to buy from a Sears, or similar store, I recommend you visit a sewing machine dealer in your area. What are the perks they offer with purchase? Your mom would benefit from classes on how to use a new machine, options, etc.. Good luck...

I've never heard of that brand. I had a Brother that died pretty quickly. I currently have a Singer that I just love. Make sure the machine is made to handle whatever sewing it is that she does. Quilting, applique, clothes and general all have their own little quirks for what they need in a machine.

I have never tried Pfaff so I couldn't advise you on that particular brand. :) I just purchased a Singer in Feb. of this year. And I love it. I spent 200 and it was worth every penny. LMAO now trying to find someone that teaches sewing on a singer..... thats a totally different story. :) Good Luck on your purchase :)
