I live in downtown Manhattan. My room faces an extremely busy street directly and there are many heavy trucks back and forth even after mid-night. Even worse, there is many pubs and clubs around. And directly beneath me is a pizza shop, which plays the hard rock&roll for the whole night and tends to increase the volume after mid-night. I don't think the new NYC noise code will help much. In sum, there is zero time that the place is quiet. I've bought foam ear plugs, but they don't help much, esp. for the rock&roll and disco type. I read the previous Q&As and thought I might have the following options: (1) military ear plugs; (2) musician ear plugs; (3) gun shooting ear plugs; (4) try more foam plugs from different manufactures. Is there a place in NYC that I can try all of the above options all at once. Specifically, which type of ear plugs is the most effective on rock&roll&disco type noise? Please give links so I can buy. I am directly sleeping on their high-vibrating sound systems.

Today is my first day as a non-smoker. I've been smoking for 14 years, I'm in my late 20's. I'm taking Chantix but its still so hard. I haven't smoked since last night. I really REALLY don't want to gain weight..but all I feel like doing is eating. Anyone have any good tips or strategies for quitting that helped them?

ok...so here's how it goes:
i have been cutting myself on my wrists for a while now. its really weird, i get really depressed a lot, but i never actually want to kill myself, i dont even know why i do it. i guess at the beginning it was to get attention, but i very quickly found out it wasnt the attention i was looking for, but im having trouble stopping.i dont know...it just feels like im releasing all the bad feelings of that day, and then i feel ok. i really need help here because it worries me, im not crazy or a girl with problems.ive got everything.completely normal, and i want to stay the way i was. i cant figure out why i get such a high from seeing the blood.please someone suggest something i should do that would help me stop?

I hate my feet...I hate other peoples feet. I hate my feet because they are gynormous! I wear a size 10 and I am only 5'6. My feet are way 2 big for my body. I think feet are so gross. I was babysitting and I had to paint these 7 year old girls nails and I wanted to throw up. It was torture. I have always been this way. I hate when people touch my feet or when people want me to do anything with feet. I have yet to find a foot that does not gross me out. Are you like this?

I was wondering if anyone here, preferbly a doctor knew anything about stuttering. Ive been stuttering since i was little. It's better now then when i was younger. I only stutter sometimes, but when i do stutter it's those important times where i need not to stutter. I don't stutter when i read or anything like that, it's only speaking.Usually when i'm trying to explain something. My parents put me in speech classes in elementry school and junior high to help with it.The problem is i wouldnt stutter when i was in the class, but i would stutter outside of the class. My question is, is there anything that a doctor can do to help with it. I want to be a nurse and my parents said that this can affect from being one beause i'll have to relay messages to doctors really fast and get to the point, and i can't do that with my stuttering. I heard of this little divice that was invented that you can put in your ear to help stop stuttering. Is this true? I need advice!!

I've been losing weight steadily and I wonder if its because I have a stomach ulcer or if it's related to something else.

Thanks.

Hello all.

My mother-in-law is being treated for hypothyroidism. She's 5'6" and weights only 127lbs. She eats normally, but nothing "cathces on".

Even though she drinks lots of coffee, eats salty foods, etc, her blood pressure is always pretty low (around 90/60). Even on the hottest summer days she is feeling cold and she tends to step out to be exposed to the sun for 10-15 minutes to start feeling warm again. If I did that, I think I'd faint and drop down, as that happens on extremely hot days.

Also, when she goes to the beach, she is comfortable with almost falling asleep on the sun (she could be lying there for hours), while others tend to run to the shade after 10-15 mins of sunbathing. Does anyone have idea what could be her problem, why is she always cold?

Thanks.
