My supervisor at work has taken a week off due to shoulder surgery. She said she broke/tore a ligament. A couple of months ago my friend had broken/torn a ligament on her ankle.

My question is: How do you know if you end up breaking/tearing a ligament. I do understand it hurts, but how do you end up doing this and how do you really know if you broke/tore one?

Just wondering... out of curiosity....
