She said that Dr.'s diagnose people with this when they think the patient is a hypocondriac. Is this true? She said they tell them that because they keep coming back and there is nothing wrong with them.

Fibromyalgia (also called fibritis) is an actual disorder that is difficult to diagnose just like some causes of back pain are hard to diagnose. It affects women more than men. The nurse was incorrect as well as uninformed. She was also stupid enough to have said something that put her place of work in jeopardy lawsuit-wise. Are you sure she was a licensed nurse and not a medical assistant? Doctors may use this diagnosis because they can't come up any other that fits the symptoms. Fibromyalgia is a form of rheumatism that affects muscles instead of joints. While there is currently no cure for it, physical therapy, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants can provide temporary relief.

It most definitely is not true. You found a nurse with bad bedside manner! Shame on her! There are some natural remedies out there that you should look into - candida overgrowth diet or The Maker's Diet. Unfortunately, the medical field doesn't know much about fibromyalgia and some medical professionals just shrug it off. I hope you feel better soon. My suggestion would be to find another doctor that has experience in fibromyalgia.

the nurse is full of bull dear. fibromyalgia can stem from other diseases as a "bi-directional" disease....

Liver diseases, auto-immune diseases and sometimes neither...could be brought on by artificial lighting ( flourescent lighting), the pollutants in the air, stress....many things.

The problem with fibromyalgia is that doctors have a hard time finding the cause. (mainly due to not seeking the correct physician or ones that do not wish to do their job)

Fibromyalgia is a bi-directional disease of some like HCV, HBV. It could even be a long lasting effect from a prior virus.

I wish I could tell you more. Hugs to you! I know how it feels!

The nurse was out of line. Fibromyalgia is a disease recognized by the medical community. It is difficult to diagnose because of the diversity of symptoms, but it is a legitimate diagnosis.

that nurse she be fired as well as any dr who actually does that. FM is very real, with very real symptoms. however i do feel that drs would rather just slap that label on some patients because theyre tired to trying to get to the bottom of the problem.drs dont like to say 'i dont know whats wrong with you'.

Thats because theres not enough studies done to test and diagnose fibromyalgia. My aunt just won a law suit over this. Shes now on disability.

These various types of hypochondriacs are often the ones seen in the chiropractors offfice, and they seem to respond to that form of treatment. Problems that medicine has no answers for or are unable to determine the causative factor for a condition.

i would get another doctor to tell me what wrong and see if he/she can find this out with you.
and if he/she don't know the answer then go to one more doctor you need to see someone and get help for your self.
remember that doctors are not always right.
you know your body better then they do.

Absolutely NOT true! I know of many who have benefitted and improved by better nutrition and detox-ing their homes. Fibro is an immune system problem. http://HealthyHomeTour.com
You would be amazed at the bad things that cleaners, bleaches, etc. do to a body.

They really don't believe it exists? HOLY SH*T!!! Dumbest thing I have ever heard.. My best suggestion is phone your doctor in Illinois and ask who he would suggest in San Diego and maybe for a referral, that way the new doctor gets all you medical records as well. Good Luck
