In the area I live there has been a rash of bridge jumpers commiting suicide, so much so that suicide hotline phones will be installed on thoses bridges. My question is, when some one jumps off a bridge into the water below, what kills them ? Is it the impact of the fall that causes a heart attack ? Is it getting sucked down in to the undertow that drowns them? What is it that kills them from the fall ?

I have noticed that the user VioletPearl has replied to several questions that the chemical imbalances that cause depression, anxiety, etc. should be resolved by changing diet rather than taking prescription medication. I am not saying that she is incorrect or that her theory is not possible, but I have never heard this before. I have a degree in psychology and this theory is not consistant with anything I learned in college. Also, I have been treated for depression with meds, and none of my doctors have ever mentioned diet.

VioletPearl, how did you arrive at this conclusion which you so eagerly defend? If someone changed their diet and it doesn't help, would you suggest antidepressants? I am not attacking or challenging your belief but simply curious as to why you believe it.

To everyone else, have you ever heard of this theory before?

Crime: Murder, Rape, Abuse, Genocide...
We assoicate these with an evil beyond understanding.
Yet, how should these be classified? Are these people going through psychological distress?
Is there a true difference between "evilness" and psychological disorder?

Like if someone looks at you funny, or if you think someone is breathing too loud or just to scream and yell any and every thing that has ever been, currently is or ever will be on your very last nerve! And if so any cures?

Or do you know someone who has it?

I just wanted to see how common this disorder is to people......

Ttricotillomania is an impulse control disorder in which people pull out their hair, not usually in great clumps, but in a meticulous sort of way, one by one...... it's actually quite sad..... the person can be left bald, being unable to stop themselves from pulling their own hair.... and it's not a masochistic thing..... it's more of a stress releiver.....

depression can affect all walks of life , rich and poor people , but why do people frown upon anti-depressants ?? I have read a few answers over time here in answers and they were all really negative towards anti-depressants ... why is that ??
Some may be habit forming but not all are and even so when coming off any meds it should be a gradual process and carefully monitored by your gp ... The benefits of these meds far outweigh the negative ...

anybody that has anxiety problems can answer this. when you start to feel it coming on, what are some things that helps you relax and not flip out? I am getting to the point that I won't leave the house because I don't want to go through it again.

I get bad anxiety attacks. They can be over little things and my body shakes, I get nauses, even a little scared. Its worse when Im anticipating something and its taking longer than expected, the anxiety builds up. How can I relax myself at these times? I used to get panic attacks but I learned how to make them subside, now Im dealing with this.

I am on a long journey to get rid of my occasional nervousenss and anxiety naturally. Started taking multivitamins, eating right, getting enough sleep etc. 3 weeks ago I began to take supplements to help such as St. John's Wort & vitamin B12 along with others which promote healthy nerve balance but I think I took them in excess, to give an idea, I was taking 600mg a day of St. John's & 100mcg of B12 each day, after a week or so I felt as if the problem was worsening so I stopped & began to feel better & enjoy life but this morning I did everything as normal & decided to take the supplements to see if it was a fluke but I feel as if the feeling has resurfaced, to give an example I had to take a pal somewhere and I felt as if my nerves took over, my hands and legs couldnt stop shaking even if I tried and the only time it wouldn't be that bad is when I moved alot. Could something be wrong with my thyroid gland? I have no med insurance so Im working on seeing a doc.

I have been on Wellbutrin for over a year and Xanax. I haven't been able to go to sleep since. Now the doctor has me on Ambien to help me sleep and I still lay there for an hour or two after taking that. Does anyone know if the Wellbutrin is why I can't sleep? I started taking this when my son was deployed in Iraq for the second of two 2 year tours. I also lost my dad during his first tour. My Dad has been dead for about 3 years and my son has been home for over a year. Do I really even need this anymore? If I don't, how do I get off the drugs?

Ummm,,,the thing is, I'm a cutter. I have never told anyone except online because nobody knows who i am on the 'net. One friend found out on his own. Thats irrelevant, but anyway, i dont know whether to tell him now, before we get too attached, or wait till later. I'm scared he'll bolt when he finds out. I prefer to never tell him, but its kinda hard to be close to someone and him not see your scars. Plus will it help if i say (truthfully) that i havent done any major cutting in a month? Please advise!

I have dreams constantly. Sometimes it's to the point where I wake up and don't feel rested. Anyways, sometimes I have dreams of short 2-3 second scenes and I don't recognize who is involved or where it is. Yet, months or years later that same scene will occur in real life.

Just last week a woman sat down in a cubicle across from me after coming back from maternity leave and it was exactly how it played out- viewing angle, thoughts, her actions- in the dreams I had even before I worked at my current job or knew her. This sort of deja vu has happend quite a few times.

Anyone with insight or comments?
