Breathing and flashcards.
Seriously.
Force yourself to breathe slowly and deeply when this happens, preferably when it first starts to happen. And have a flashcard at the ready with lines on it reminding yourself "there's nothing to worry about", "it's a only a physical reaction", etc. And have a phone handy to call someone you trust with, so they can talk to you and distract you.
Good luck

First off realize you aren't alone. There are a few option for dealing with anxiety. Meds are one option. I am Lexapro 20mgs and it helps me. Or you could just ask the doc for a benzo like xanax for when you actually have the attack. Also there is the therapy option. CBT is awesome for panic. CBT means Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Also thinking positive and getting enough sleep helps. Cutting out caffiene is a big help too. Exercise helps some, though I am to lazy for that lol. Also alot of people don't know that an issue with your thyroid can cause anxiety, make sure you ask the doc for a blood test to check that! Hope I helped!

Xanax and Valium are tranquilizers and are nothing but bandaids. You need to consult your doctor and address this. It is not a situation to be taken lightly as the real problem is not the symptoms you are experiencing now but the damage that may be caused to your heart. Especially if you suffer from high blood pressure. I suggest something that I was on for 3 years, Paxil. It worked wonders and eliminated the panic attacks as well as the physical manifiestations of anxiety(upset stomach, shaking, irratability, depression). Please seek help from a professional.

Well before you rush to medicate yourself, try to find an alternate way of dealing with it. The good news is, you're aware of it and what it is so therefore it makes it better to deal with. You can handle it. Perhaps remove yourself from all outside distractions. (No phone, no tv, just a warm bath with candles and easy music or lying on your bed with "white noise"). If you're at work, I would simply go to the restroom, sit down and breath deep through your nose and let it out slowly through your mouth. Another thing is to sit at your desk (or wherever) and WRITE DOWN (make a list) of what's running through your head. Above all, try to remove yourself from anyone else or any distractions. Close your eyes, think. This is a much better alternative to drugging yourself up unnecessarily. Good luck.

I have constant anxiety and for me the best way to deal with it is just distraction, being alone or trying to relax just makes me worse because you are within your own thoughts. Exercise, shops,go for a drive, listen to happy music etc are just some of the things i do. best wishes.xx

You should consider using marijuana as an alternative to the pills you may be prescribed if you live in a state where it is legal. Many studies have proven that marijuana is beneficial in relieving symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. I live in California and I use marijuana legally for my anxiety and migraines and it helps me a lot more than any prescription my doctor has ever prescribed and with much less side effects.
