Why is sticking up your middle finger a bad thing?

Its just a finger.How are you swearing by holding up a finger.

In England the same gesture is represented with the first 2 fingers and often accompanied by a sound. In some parts its a hand scraping against the bottom of the chin or any number of other, similar gestures. It's sign language - short hand even. It does the job when words can't and it is a widely accepted action with a widely accepted meaning. In essence you are swearing by majority rules.

The proper way to do it (which many people do not) is to have the middle finger held up with the finger either side slightly curled over so that it makes the shape of a guys penis and two balls. It has been around for thousands of years (or so it is said) but It was the 70's/80's punk kind of thing to do back then which brought it back to being used to much and how it became so well known.
Even though many people don't do it the "proper" way that is still what it represents,everyone knows it represents something bad but many do not stop to think what it actually means. So the fact it represents the mail phallus is why it is dubbed inappropriate. Hope I answered your question

Well it it longer than the others and if you stick it up, it is like flashing a male part at someone. But it is ok if you dont mind someone grabbing your long finger and breaking it off. Thats as nice as flashing your rude guesture at them...
