General Health Care - August 2006

I think I slept on it wrong, and it has a kink (i.e. pain) when I turn my head to the side. I've had it for the past few days.

I took a cpr class a few years back in 7th grade and the certificate was only valid for 1 year after the completion date. Now that im a senior im wondering is it necessary to reknew it? if so how? do i need to take another class to be issued a current certificate?

I stepped off my stairs and onto a piece of glass as I turned. It stuck into the ball of my foot (right at the bottom of my big toe). I got a big piece out and couldnt see more but even with a bandage and socks on I still feel a pinch, not a "got a cut" pinch but "is there something in there?" pinch. I dont want to make the wound bigger but I dont want to leave a piece of glass in there-if there is one. How can I tell without re-opening the wound? Any ideas?

my syptoms are shooting pain in right eye lasting 30 miutes the the pain transfersto the left hand side of the neck ,the neck muscle at the side swells up and shooting pains are consistent going through the side of head and base of neck on and of over a two hour period with a blinding headache and skull pressure pain

What causes insomnia and what are the best ways to deal with it? I am worried about becoming dependent on prescription sleep aids, but I need to get some sleep. I was injured on the job this year, actually in June, I ruptured a disk in my lumbar region while lifting a 28' ladder at work. My question is, has anyone else here had to deal with workers comp? If so did you receive a settlement for your injury? I retained a WC attorney on the advice of another attorney to make sure I was taken care of and they have done a great job so far. I was just curious if a settlement is a reasonable expectation for this type of injury. My doc said that he doesn't recommend me going back to my regular job based on the condition of my spine, I have degenerative disk disease, I'm 44. Thanks in advance!

I have been getting serious ear pains in my one ear maybe two to three times a month. I was told by the ear doctor and dentist who specializes in TMJ that the pain is caused by muscle spasms in my jar. He told me not to eat certain foods and try not to grind my teeth because these things might bring on the spasms. Has anyone else had this problem? Any information or thoughts on this would be appreciated. I plan to go see my regular doctor for a check up next week.

I have acquired a road burn (deep scrape from sliding on the road) on my leg. It is about six inches by four inches. I have been spraying a disinfectant on it and then wrapping it in gauze and a bandage. Is there a better way I should be treating this?

I ate some popcorn the other night, and within 2 hours had the hives on my arms. (I had popcorn at the same establishment a week before, w/no hives.) Now, for the past couple of days, the hives come after most meals, mostly localized to my arms, and are completely gone in about three hours. I can't figure out a common food element (after popcorn, turkey sandwich, chicken ramen, chicken burrito, they've come). I don't feel particularly stressed, or hot, or cold. Nothing has really changed from the past, so I'm at a loss as to where these could be coming from... the only common denominator is that they occur after I eat. It's like I'm allergic to eating.

I am trying to quit smoking and was wondering, I always smoke a half a cigerette when I smoke so that ends up being a little less then a pack a day. So isn't that really only a half a pack a day?
Also is smoking a half a cigerette and then putting it out and smoking the rest later considered smoking 23 cigerrettes or one.

I had it all last night.I sometimes get tension headaches,but this was different.Usually sleeping will help,but this one got worst with rest!
