I have asthma and take an inhailer called albuteral. My inhailer as steroids in it which makes me depessed and wont let me sleep. Also it is starting not to work anymore. It works right away but I end up having to take it again maybe that night or something. Is there anything else I can take or do to calm my asthma?

I was prescribed Singulair for my allergies and it didn't help my asthma. My doctor then prescribe Advair. I haven't had to use my inhaler since. But I've recently read some very bad things about Advair. Should I be concerned?

I was prescribed 250/50 and take it once a day. I found out the pharmacist screwed up and it was suppose to be taken twice a day. Since it has helped so much, I was told just to continue the once a day. Isn't it to be taken twice a day because it only lasts 12 hours? And shouldn't they have started me out with the smaller dosage (100/50) first? Maybe I would only need the 100/50? Sometimes I wonder about doctors and what they prescribe. I'm not sure they always go about it in the proper manner.

I work in a psychiatric research hospital that deals with in and out patients (where a Mantoux test is mandatory for all employees and volunteers). Just wondering if anyone else has had a positive result of the test and what the procedures were following that (or if there are any nurses here who know that the deal is!). I know I'll have to go on a course of antibiotics, but will they allow me to continue working during those months?
(As of now they say it's either a positive reaction or an allergic reaction...I'm going in for my second reading tomorrow...and it looks the same as the first: red and itchy with a bump! I have no overt symptoms of TB.)

I am severely asthmatic w/ an immune deficiency and due to recurring pneumonia, I am being sent to be tested for cystic fibrosis. I have been prednisone (steroid) dependent for years. I recently was hospitalized and given high doses IV. My pulmonolgist wants me to have the sweat test done for cystic fibrosis but is aware prednisone may effect the results. At what dose amount would it effect the results of the CF test and how long must past after taking the higher doses before the test can be done?

My stepfather has emphysema and acute respiratory disease. He is now taking morphine and was in a nursing home for about 7 weeks. He is back home now but we wonder how long he has realistically and if there is anything significant about him being on morphine.

Would appreciate some serious medical opinions on this please! Since last Sunday, I have had pains in my chest (only on the left hand side directly in behind the breast) when I breathe in or out deeply. This just gone Sunday I came down with a really heavy cold and was in bed all day monday with a really high fever (I felt freezing but I was actually extremely warm to others). Today I struggled out of bed to Uni but I still feel terrible. I have a cough (which makes the chest pain hurt) and lots of horrible mucus stuff being pushed up. The chest pain has been sore for the whole time since last sun and does not feel better. Going to make appointment at Dr but earliest they can give me is Thursday. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this before or has medical training that can help me as I'm a bit worried it is something more serious! Thanks

My husband is currently in the hospital for an asthma attack and no one will tell us anything. All his test results are in but the doctor refuses to give me information due to the Hepa LAW.Im so upset.I asked the nurse can you page the doctor and she goes "Were only allowed to page him if something is wrong with the patient"I said Can you call him and tell him his patient has questions. "She said sure but that doesnt mean he'll call back"I'm like WTF??? Is this how hospitals work? Where Im from the doctor and nurses can talk to the spouse. My husband even sighned the paper to release information to me. Can Anyone help me understand?----Frustrated in Florida
