This happened to me a few months ago, couldn't get enough air because it hurt to inhale past a certain point. I had a chest xray too. Then the ER doc said they would have to do a CT scan to rule out a ruptured spleen. I don't think pleuracy would result, but she should ask the doc. My breathing problem lasted about six weeks. It was tough, and I didn't dare sneeze. If she isn't better by now, she should get a second opinion. Most insurances cover it. It isn't good for the heart when not enough oxygen is inhaled.

you and I take occasional deep breaths or sighs automatically. We dont even think about it. The problem with a person that have bruised their ribs, is that it hurts to take a big breath. you have tiny little air sacs in the bases of your lungs. When you do not breathe deep enough, these air sacs can collapse. The big breaths ensure that the small sacs stay open. When these sacs collapse, it is the ideal place for pneumonia to set in. I work in a open heart intensive care unit . We receive patients after they have bypasses, lung transplants, and heart transplants. After surgery, making the patients do their deep breathing is an important part of recovery. Like your mom, it hurts them to take those deep breaths since they have had their chests cut open.-- the deep breaths keeps the lungs nice and open, they definitely do not need the complication of a pneumonia after a major surgery. deep breathing will only benefit your mother and help in her recovery time. encourage her to do the deep breathing. I know she will be sore, but take it from somebody who does this everyday for a living with acutely ill patients, it will make a difference.

i could take a paracetamol or Tylenol and then, in case you have some thing like a Moby Wrap (or Ace Bandages) you are able to bind your physique right into a place that's gentle. this could provide up you from pulling it and twisting painfully, and could initiate the healing technique. that's all they could do on the scientific institution with bandages besides, as they does no longer prefer to do an x-ray.
