That's okay, it's spelled "pneumonia", and it's the result of inflammation in the lungs that fill the lungs with fluid making the exchange of oxygen harder. Several infectious germs and several kinds of viruses can cause that kind of inflamation. Those things are indeed contagious. If you caught one of them, you wouldn't necessarily develop pneumonia, but it's always a risk. You should do everything you can, within reason, to avoid colds and the flu.
That means get your flu shot. There's also a pneumonia shot that's most often given to very old folks who are much more likely to develop pneumonia as a result of a cold or other lung infection.
The other important thing is to wash your hands often. Whenever you go to the bathroom, and whenever you handle things other people have eaten from or used to drink from - those are the most important times for handwashing. I know, it sounds very simple - almost too simple - but it's the number one thing you can do to keep from getting sick.
Oh - and don't share drinking impliments like straws, don't drink from the same soda bottle that another person is using (lots of kids will share sodas) and don't kiss someone who obviously has a bad cold. You probably can't avoid every germ that comes along, but by taking reasonable precautions, you can avoid a lot of 'em.

It can be. There a few different causes of pneumonia. You can get it from bacteria or virus. So yes you can catch it like a cold or you can get it by inhaling stuff into your lungs.

The bacteria that can lead to pneumonia is contagious, but pneumonia itself is not contagious if that makes sense.
