Would appreciate some serious medical opinions on this please! Since last Sunday, I have had pains in my chest (only on the left hand side directly in behind the breast) when I breathe in or out deeply. This just gone Sunday I came down with a really heavy cold and was in bed all day monday with a really high fever (I felt freezing but I was actually extremely warm to others). Today I struggled out of bed to Uni but I still feel terrible. I have a cough (which makes the chest pain hurt) and lots of horrible mucus stuff being pushed up. The chest pain has been sore for the whole time since last sun and does not feel better. Going to make appointment at Dr but earliest they can give me is Thursday. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this before or has medical training that can help me as I'm a bit worried it is something more serious! Thanks

It sounds like a chest infection. If the phlegm you're coughing up is a horrible green colour then that's a sure sign of a chest infection but let the doctor check you out

Certainly sounds like bronchitis or some other infection :( If you really can't get to the doc's till Thursday you can help alleviate the symptoms by taking paracetomol to keep your temp down, lots of fluids to stay hydrated, honey and lemon drinks are great for extra vit C, and to help shift that gunk in your chest you can get eucalyptus oil and put a few drops into a pan of steaming water and inhale deeply (this might make you cough more to start with but be persistent), or a few drops in a nice hot bath, also Tiger Balm as a substitute for menthol rub as it is even more soothing. Take any antibiotics the doc prescribes and complete the course or you risk a relapse. Get well soon :*

There are a lot of nasty viruses going around at the moment. I've recently had something similar and didn't go to docs cos can never get an appointment til the following week. I just kept on going, downed the flu capsules and cough medicine and got over it but still have a bit of a chesty cough. The best thing you can do is see your doc as people may tell you that you have got something serious and you can get yourself worried and worked up about it when you should be resting and concentrating on recovering.
Hope you feel better soon!!

I have had many chest infections as a child, and am now a trained health professional-(OT). I couldnt tell you in detail-because it is not specifically an area of my training-but I can tell you from experience that it could be one of two possible reasons-1. If you have been coughing frequently-over a few days-you may have strained a muscle in your chest-which will settle down when you have finnished your course of anti biotics-or have gotten rid of the virus.
2. You may have undiagnosed very mild asthma-which this virus has brought into focus-or if you already have been diagnosed with asthma-take your time with all activities-pace yourself+please don't struggle into uni-taking a few days off to keep warm and rest with plenty of fluids and a couple of paracetamol to take down your temperature-will probibly save you from taking more days off in the fututre from exhausting yourself. Comendable comitment tho!:-)

yeah it sounds like a chest infection your gona need some anti-biotics. your probably pretty run down with all your uni work, which is why you feel so ill. take 2 paracetamol 4 times a day if you need to keep your temp down (so long as your not alergic) and drink plenty of clear fluids.
P.S. im not medically trained im just a nursing asst on a hospital ward.
hope you feel better soon

Dont be such a gurl. In the olden days, people used to put up with real sickness. Back in the days of the great plague there were no Drs around.

So long as you can breathe count yourself lucky. BTW Get well Soon - you know what to do.

I have exactly the same symptoms and went to Docs today and they said it was a chest infection. 10 day course of anti-biotics. Hope you feel better soon. Go to the Docs anyway I'm no Doctor, and everyone is different.

Assume that it is - as to do nothing won't help. So, keep off all dairy products (promotes mucas production), take plenty of liquids and eat decent, healthy food to keep your strength up. Take good quality vitamin C at maximum amount. Ease chest pain with paracetemol. Don't socialise or you may infect others.

Get well soon.

Sounds very much like a chest infection, not a very good Dr you have making you wait till Thursday, you should get it treated as it could turn into something worse like pneumonia or pleurisy ,believe me you don`t want that, play up until the Dr sees you it`s your health your playing with ,good luck
