Doctors say that once you're exposed to a carcinogen, you are considered to be "at risk" for the rest of your life due to the exposure (even if you are only exposed once). So, why would quitting REDUCE one's risk, shouldn't it only prevent the risk from growing larger?

p.s. if a person is exposed to a chemical carcinogen (like getting double the recommended dose in one day) will they be at risk forever and is the risk usually greatly increased from one exposure, or do most carcinogens require long term exposure at larger doses?

A very dear friend of mine seems to have many of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and I believe the harsh stress she's under at work might also be part of her problem. I can't find anything on "Google" to suggest that stress might be a factor - or a symptom - of the disease. Can anyone direct me to a web site or other data that might link stress and ovarian cancer? Thank you for your help!

I know both profession is dealing with dangerous essential to the body, Hematology, is the branch of medicine dealing with blood and Oncology, is the branch of medicine dealing with tumors and cancer. Both job has a great amount of pros and cons, Oncology is one of branches of medicine which is really required because of the death rate of cancer, but is rewarding if you save someone, so is a Hematologist. So which is the better profession ???

i have been a one-pack-a-day smoker since i was 18. i am now 22. i quit smoking about three weeks ago, but lately i've been plagued by toothaches, earaches, and jaw pain. there's no swelling in my jaw, and when i went to see a week after i quit they said that i was just suffering from TMJ. but now (two weeks later) i see a small portion of my inner bottom lip has turned a bright red. it doesn't look patchy per say, but i'm still concerned. it looks as though i may have bitten too hard on that area in my sleep or something. it doesn't hurt and it doesn't bleed, and i've only had it for a day or so. so my question is this: is it possible to be have gotten oral cancer at my age and after only having smoked for four years? i don't drink alcohol at all and i generally have good oral hygiene. thhanks!

We are a new non-profit organization providing legal, financial and transportation to Cancer patients during their treatment. We are located in Southern California and currently are in need of vans to use to transport Cancer patients. We are registering with Cars for Causes but how do we find others to donate a vehicle. We are a 501(c)3 and the donor would receive the tax deduction. Looking for ideas, to get to the public. The need for transportation is enormous.

Ok folks....no silly answers please because I am so nervous I am about to jump out of my skin. I have had a mammogram which apparently showed nothing, but also had 2 ultrasounds which show something suspicious. I have an appointment with a breast surgeon this afternoon for a consultation about a biopsy she will schedule in the near future. I am so scared about this...have a sister-in-law just recovering from breast cancer and a best friend just in the middle of her chemo treatments. Please....if you can 't say something positive, then don't say anything at all, OK? Thanks.

What would you do for a mother-in-law who is dying of cancer and lives in another state? My mother-in-law has stage 4 cancer (I think) that's spread throughout her body. She's no longer in remission, and the prognosis does not sound encouraging. What would you do for her (other than pray for her), if you knew she might only have a few more months to live? We have never lived near her, and I do not have what I would call a close relationship with her. We did invite her to stay with us over Thanksgiving last year when her cancer was in remission, which went really well. Now she's back on chemo, so I don't think she'll be up to traveling.
