My mom is 60. She applied for disability 4 months ago. She is in remision for non-hodgkins lymphoma. The chemo caused a lot of nuerilogical dammage. She ended up having to have back surgery. She is almost always in pain and has to wear morphine patches just to be able to functionn. She also has to take medication to help her sleep and orher pain management. Does this qualify her as being disabled and if so what is taking them so long to determine her eligibility?

It usually takes 6-12 months to get SSI disability, when you do you do get all the back pay, just a time consuming process. Too many people have tried to rip them off, so those that really are disabled pay

Hi, First of all your mom has to be disabled for 12 months. I'm not sure if she'll get it. Her doctors must sign statements that she has been unable to work for 12 months. I understand neuropathy but it is usually reversible. Doctors are very unlikely to document her situation especially id she is in remission.

Also, SSI and SSD will always deny someone the first time they apply unless they are blind.

I was denied this year and I have breast cancer. However, I was just restaged with stage IV, which is terminal. My doctor said he will give SSD what they need. So, you pretty much have to be terminal or be severe before you are eligible. Unfortunate but true.

Your mom can function and the doctors will state that. She will get denied again no matter that she's on pain meds. In their mind she can still talk on a phone and that constitutes being able to work.
