Well this is divided into several categories. There are Hematology,Surgical Oncology, and Radiation Oncology. From my experience,Radiation Oncology will give you more normal hours as radiation is only given Monday -Friday.Granted there are occasions when you are on call and you may have to cover a weekend.Hematology is also a profession with no surgery and office hours. You may see many patients during the day but,you know whats coming if you review the schedule. They also have weekends off but, with call.Surgical oncology is a bit different. If there is a emergency case, you can be on your feet for many hours performing surgery at any time.If I was you,Radiation Oncology will give you the money and freedom that will help you maintain a normal family life.

If you are okay with losing some patients to the cancer, then definitely go for oncology... the profession needs some caring people. Hematology will keep you much busier, I'm sure... the need for blood products is never dwindling, and you can also work at a research facility.

I'm sure you'd be dealing with both. I personally feel an Oncologist would have more hands on patient and a more mobile job. The other you may stay in the lab a lot. So, do you want a less active or more active job?

Actually, a lot of doctors that do one also do the other. As to what is a better profession, that would depend more on you than what somebody else says - what do YOU want to do?
