I have never sewed in my life! But I want to learn and I really want to make a blanket with personalized pictures on them for my Mom. Does anyone have any good suggestions for books, websites or dvds to learn how? I want to get the pictures put on fabric and then patch them on. I've heard picture blankets are pretty easy to learn and good for beginners.

I want a pattern for a rectangular flat pencil pouch with a zipper at the top, and one for a rectangular case with squared ends... I've searched quite a bit, and if anyone knows any good sites, please tell! :)

I'm just starting to try out counted cross stitch and find that I need to better hide those countless tails of thread that cover the back of the canvas. They weren't noticeable from the front until I added the stick on backing and then they all became very apparent! What do I do so the back is not inundated with roads of thread? (I don't have this problem with needlepoint since everything can be tucked in...what's the trick with counted cross stitch?)

My sewing genie either gobs up under the pressure foot (sorry if my terminology is a little off, bare with me the last time I used a sewing machine was 35 years ago in "home ec") where the bobbin is, or the upper thread breaks. I do not have the instruction manual in hand, but had it read to me over the phone, so I think I have the thread placed properly (not sure, of course). I did have some luck, so I know there is hope. Thanks for your time :)

I'm trying to find a website that makes paint-by-number patterns/kits from real photos. If anyone knows of any I'd appreciate it.

Thank you

There will be about 75 kids. Any good, somewhat simple ideas that will keep them busy? Also, I would like to have something that they could take home.

For my Temari Cosplay, I found a PERFECT fan on Amazon.com. The thing is, it's so pretty that I want to be able to use it for decoration when the convention is over. Is there a way I can make a removable cover for the fan and paint on the cover?

I'm making my daughter's costume. The main part of the gown is crepe-backed satin. It also calls for bias tape in several spots -- white (matching the satin) around the bottom and blue as an accent color around the front of the gown.

On the right: http://www.simplicity.com/assets/9902/9902.jpg

So here's my dilemma. I went to Joann and the bias tape that they had was a stiff, cottony, broadclothy material (think men's buttondown shirt) which I think would be totally awful and wrong against crepe-backed satin. It strains every essence of my being to even consider using it. The other binding they had was a satin blanket binding, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure that that is bias cut. And it's about 3 times the width that I need.

I'm not sure where else to look that would have different types of bias tape or whether it's something that's even made. Maybe I could make my own but I don't want to get into buying yardage of blue satin if I don't have to.

Someone wants me to make a towel cake for them. They are buying the towels and a night gown, also the bath stuff to put in it . I am going to buy the ribbon and flowers and spend the time making it. so how much should I charge. The 1 cake I have made I spent $13.00 in ribbon and flowers alone. So how much should I charge.
here is an example of my kakes.

I make my own puppets but want to make a different easy to make design. I am looking for ideas from others and also looking for a pattern for a puppet I saw that was formed with a bendable, yet stiff plastic foam.

This puppet was light weight, easy on the hands and your hand fit snug inside it. I have never seen one made of this material before. The foam was aprox. 1 1/2" - 2" thick.

Does anyone know where I can find free, easy to make puppet instructions on the net?

I only make puppets that have mouths that move.

The aircraft would not have to carry the weight of a battery with it and you wouldn't have to worry about running out of electricity.
