Hobbies & Crafts - September 2006

I have a (just) chocolate bar wrapped in foil w/ a paper wrapper around the foil. It is a limited run and I want to keep it as a souvenir for *hopefully* many years. I don't expect it to stay edible, just keep it from decomposing or melting. But if there WAS a way to keep it edible, I'd prefer that method.

I'm so into cake decorating. Anybody have any tips and tricks on getting the icing nice and smooth on the cake? (And nevermind the hot spatula trick--don't much care for the way it makes the icing shiny). Cakedeco tips of any kind are welcome too. Thanks for sharing!

It seems to be going fine but every new layer I stick on the paper at the top of the baloon seems to go all loose and wrinkly when it is wet but when it is dry it stretches and splits and the balloon is visible again. Could this be to do with how fast it is drying. I put it in a sunny spot for it to dry naturally but do you think it would be a bad idea to use a hair drier on a low setting? Could this possibly pop the balloon inside. Also how many layers of paper do you suggest? I will have done 4 in 24 hours and I need it to be finished by tommorow night and to be dry so I can paint it and let that dry overnight as I need it the day after that. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I just found out the middle/high school names that my mother went to and am searching for copies of her yearbooks from the 60s. She didn't have any of these momentos. I've contacted the schools and have yet to receive a response. I've looked on ebay and nothing there. Does anyone know of a way that I could get a copy of these yearbooks or at least a photo copy of the pages that had pictures of my mother? Thanks!

I am in the U.K Right i know anyone under the age of 12 does not need a rod licence..but if i take my two 10year olds fishing but DO NOT fish myself , do I need a rod licence??? I would be teaching them but not fishing myself. Any help please they are desperate to go but knowone seems to know the answer to this..

I am searching for plastic canvas patterns such as hearts, flowers, stars, cat, and the alphabet where I can easily just count and put them on a piece of paper. I know what to do after that. Also possible sizing charts for boxes, purses etc so I dont mess up and have to waste the canvas. Thanks.

The other day I was in Karate, and my friend and I were doing Kumite(sparring) and my sensei gave me 20 push ups for wearing a wife-beater under my gi, and I shouldn't have asked why becasue he could have taken offense and called it disrespectful, but I did anyway and he said the rule was that only girls may wear a plain white T-shirt under their gi. Is this some traditional martial arts rule or something?

I have an Evader ST Pro, and I'm wondering what brushless motor to put in it. I've heard that the Novak SS5800 can work without wrecking the transmission even when the slipper is set up to do wheelies, but the Velociti 5.5 destroys the transmission every time you use it. Which Novak Velociti, SS, or Reedy Neo should I use?
