I want to begin baking and decorating simple (one or two layer cakes) to bring to family parties. What are tools that I may need (offset spatula, springform pan, parchment sheets, turntable, certain tips, piping bag, etc.) and where is the cheapest place to obtain them (online, restaurant supply stores)? What's a good basic recipe to follow for the cake, buttercream and icing? Are there any good online resources such as videos or pictures to follow?

I want to throw my husband a 60th birthday party in August and I've decided that finger foods will do quite well. What are some good ones, hot or cold? Meats, or veggies, or fruits, whatever. Thank you all in advance.

I am planning my engagement party. does anyone have any ideas for games or giveaways? it is to b held the end of july at a lake. we have a pavillion reserved and will just have a cookout w/ hamburgers hot dogs chips sausage potatoe salad etc. i want cheap and simple but nice. well have a boat and theres swimming and playareas and sand. Now I am going to provide ice water lemonade and iced tea is it wrong to tell guests if they want soda to bring their own? its just it is expensive and some ppl r hoggish about it. i will provide a cooler w/ ice for their soda but i am recommending they mark their names on it. is this cheap or wrong for me to do? also, would it b lame if i decorated the tables w/ baskets w/ fresh cut wild flowers and deep candle holders w/ tea candles (so they wont blow out for when it gets close evening). what do u think about have 50/50's or chinese auctions. we just 2wnat to have a fun time. open to all suggestions! thnks!

Any suggestions on snacks that may go with the novel. It's mostly in New York, so what are some "New York Snacks" that would be fun to serve?

Sizzle or something. The name of the community is Ellis Plantation, so maybe Plantation can be in the title? The block party will be outdoors in the summer. Thanks for any help!

I'm on a diet but I'm also the only one willing to cook for celebrations in my family and I would feel horrible if we went without a birthday cake or something when one was in order. Anyway, I'm on a calorie limit and I just can't help but break it every single time I cook for the family!! I've tried eating before I start cooking, making a lot of salad to go along with the meal so I'll be less tempted to eat other stuff, NOTHING WORKS! I really want to lose six pounds, does anybody know how I can do this??

ok well our junior prom was like 2 weeks ago, it was good and all but we didnt have a theme. I mean we had the song "heres to the night "and stars but really nothing. the senoirs just had their ball and it was "candyland" theme with ice cream and a candy every where. My friend who was even on the commite, i gave like 7 ideas that would have been fine but still no theme. Next year for senior ball im joining the commite, and i want to have a ton of theme options so this doesnt happen again. just no candyland, mardi grac(that was the seniors junoirs prom last year), or beach b/c we live at hte beach. some unqiue ideas would be nice. thanks
