I'm on a diet but I'm also the only one willing to cook for celebrations in my family and I would feel horrible if we went without a birthday cake or something when one was in order. Anyway, I'm on a calorie limit and I just can't help but break it every single time I cook for the family!! I've tried eating before I start cooking, making a lot of salad to go along with the meal so I'll be less tempted to eat other stuff, NOTHING WORKS! I really want to lose six pounds, does anybody know how I can do this??

This is impossible!...trust me! If you are as great a cook as you sound, it is natural to want to pick and nibble...it is a natural part of the cooking process! How else are you going to know how everything is coming along, or how good the finished product is? My best suggestion is to find other areas to cut down...because when you are cooking, and if you are a good cook, you are going to want to sample everything! Maybe start walking to the grocery store! lol!

Do not resist food. Here's what I do and it works.

I am also in a 1300 calories per day limit and for every 100 calories I eat I do either one of the following and eat one pink grapefruit. Although people sometimes don't believe in it but I think it does have some negative calories associated with it (more calories burnt that taken in).

- Speed Walk for 15 minutes
- Dance for 20 minutes
- Do 50 crunches and about 40 squats

All of the above answers are good....drink lots of water, increase your exercises the morning of the get together, etc....However, I find it most useful to just make stuff I don't care that much about. For instance, a butter cake with chocolate frosting....most people love it....I can easily resist. I make mashed roasted cauliflower for me, so I can resist all the potato dishes....I make macaroni and cheese with a combo of cheeses that are not my favorites...If they want pasta, I make a sauce I don't particularly like. Then I also go all out on vegetable side dishes I love such as roasted vegetables. I make a lean meat, with sauces they can add (ones I don't care that much about) and this way I can eat enough to not feel deprived, and they get plenty of stuff they like. Hope this helps!

Since you're the one doing all the cooking make healthier stuff, if they don't like it then they should cook. But on special occassions, like birthdays it wouldn't be a terrible thing if you had a small peice of bday cake.

try just eating a small amount. Sometimes just a couple bites is enough to get over the need to taste it. Eat large portions of the healthy food and just a few bites of the unhealthy stuff.

Listen, a little indulgence here and there isn't going to kill you. Just cut back on calories and up the exercise before and after and it will balance out.

mm...i understand u...it's hard to not eating while cooking... i don't think you'll find a way to not eating...the one good thing that only work is repeating in your mid "no, i won't do it.." maybe put a pic on the wall (where u can easily see) of something that motive u to your diet (maybe a dress)...
just this way i resist to not eating...

Tell your family they need to be more understanding and chip in on this responsibility. If they don't like to cook, then they need to chip in on ordering out.
